Description:
We just came up with this song on the way to the gig. And here it is warts and all, Kelli shaking and singing and Jim playing his guitar, simple. I hope you like our new direction!
(we'll be working out a better version of this, so, sorry, no download)
Lyrics:
SOUNDS LIKE LOVE
I can hear it in the country
I can hear it in the trees
I can hear it in the subway
sounds like love
I can hear it in the ocean
I can hear it in wind
I can hear it in the desert
sounds like love
Go on make it loud
Go on make it heard
Keep on making
Sounds Like Love
Sounds Like Love
Sounds Like Love
I can hear it on the playgrounds
I can hear it in the streets
I can hear it in the fields it
sounds like love
I can hear it in the mountains
I can hear it in the homes
I can hear it in valleys it
Sounds like love
Go on make it loud
Go on make it heard
Insist on making
Sounds Like Love
Sounds like love
Sounds like love
You've got to make them listen to
Sounds like love
Sounds like a winner
sounds like a good idea
sounds like please and thank you,
and sounds like hello friend
Sounds from without
sounds from within
sounds like the answer
sounds like love

I love Kelli's voice in this &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:24:40 AM
and the guitar is excellent, too. Simple, yet intricate. Very enjoyable coffeehouse song. :-) [ Reply to This ]
... could be Spectorized? &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:52:53 AM
Everything you guys do is exquisitely musical, and this is particularly so... Kelli's voice is phenomenally expressive; I don't know why I'm not hearing it on the radio. It's so simple and pure, so keeping it that way in any further production you do would definitely work, but, strangely enough, I could see this working with the full Phil Spector treatment too... strings, timpani, etc. Yup, I said it was strange, but I think it would work! Hmm... does it need more? &mdash 06/18/08 - 08:04:37 AM
sweet simple strong love... sounds really good to me! I enjoy Kelli's voice, and the simple rhythmic melody here sounds like ringing a bell, a clear strident "ding, ding, dong". The guitar accompaniment is perfect for this. The shaker, possibly should be more sporadic, only in certain sections. But this feels like a perfect "unplugged" piece... don't hang too much more on it! :-)

Great concept &mdash 06/20/08 - 12:47:28 PM
That voice that I love. That guitar that I love. If any suggestions, I find the maracas (or what it is), to be a little bit annoying in the background. I would rather hear this song with only the guitar and the voice. But, this is also only a matter of taste of course. Taking it further in my mind, I could also see drums, bass, perhaps an accordion being added to the mix, as well as some backing vocals... But back to where we are. I still enjoyed a lot. Closed my eyes and felt as I where in a caf. [ Reply to This ]
Hi Mikki! &mdash 06/21/08 - 09:33:58 AM
Yeah we are working on a version without the shaker. To pull back the curtain a bit, this is how we often work, in that I play an acoustic guitar track along with a rhythmic loop to lock into the tempo a bit better than the click track, and then I send that to Kelli to see if she comes up with lyrics and a melody. Lately I've been trying to work out things too much before I send her anything and we've been a little blocked for that reason. She told me to turn off the filters and just send her anything, so I sent her this instrumental (even though I get a little off in the end bit) and she came up with this gorgeous vocal, and so even though this is what you would call a rough draft seeing as it's both of ours first take, I decided to post it to get in the whole "live" spirit. I've since re-done this without the shaker and fixed my timing problems and though I might add a few little acoustic things, I think I'd like to keep this simple. Kelli is moving from Texas to NYC later this year, which is a lot closer to Boston. I'm daydreaming now that we might actually be able to gig out as a duo, and so I'm trying to expand our repertoire to add more material we could play out live. Thanks for your comment! Kelli is gifted... &mdash 06/22/08 - 07:53:38 PM

This is the good kind of simple...

Beautiful song you two. Great guitar playing Jim. Kelli's voice is nice and smooth. I'll have to check out the newer version when that comes out too.

Lovely! &mdash 07/10/08 - 10:16:56 PM
The guitar and the vocal both are ear-snuggly comforting. Makes me wish I could play well enough in this style to play along. Would like to hear one or two lines of harmony, but not too much, just enough to make you appreciate Kelli's golden-toned vocal. This is a winner, well written and a great concept. I think the next version should create a feeling of space and travel in the listener's head. Can't wait to hear what you do with it.
