Description:
Recently Thomas Dolby assembled a small orchestra for a multi-media performance in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sputnik. Complete with story telling as well as live music and video. In the story they touched on the canine named Laika that was sent up in Sputnik II. This stray found on the streets of Moscow became a national hero to the Russians, there were even cigarettes named after her. The tragic thing to me is that they never intended to bring her back home after her journey. Yet here is the world celebrating this dog all the way to her death in low orbit. I thought it was an interesting story and I felt she (Laika) deserved a song. Hats off to Mr. Dolby for an amazing performance that ultimately inspired me to write this tune. You can see a video of the show at his website....I highly recommend it.....enjoy Laika.... btw, there is no synth used on this tune whatsoever. p.s. this is from the new SCW album "Fantastic" available on iTunes and cdbaby.com p.p.s.s. join us this Sunday June 22nd at 10pm Eastern 9 Central on www.wildbunchradio.com for the SCW "Fantastic" listening party with Mack Danger....I'll be live in the studio with him discussing the new record and so much more....should be a blast.... www.springclockwonder.com Lyrics:
Go out and find a Russian strayBe certain it is cute Give her some food and water too The Moscow dog in orbiter 2 Posed such a threat to western views Be sure the press get good pictures What they don't know she won't be coming back to earth hallelujah next stop luna The world is watching, contact Her harness tight, up from daylight See ya, sweet pup, bon voyage, good luck So they achieve the most expensive way to euthanize in the vacuum of space hallelujah No they did not plan, No they did not plan To bring her back Toss her out with the can, Toss her out with the can She burns out upon re-entry Laika shines like a shooting star To distant to come home but not too far Laika shines like a shooting star To distant to come home but not too far Hardware:
