Description:
This is a collab with Ibstrat (Mark), who posted this in the Coffee shop and PM me to see if I'd like to add vocal and some lyrics. While Marks original is a blues (Joplin Style), I think my adding vocal and words makes it sort of Folky, so Folky Blues? LOL. Hope you like the results as the lyrics describe a meeting of two guys who join forces and go on the road as a duo ( something I did many years ago).
Lyrics:
Rollin’ 2
1
I met this guy who plays a mean guitar,
’said if I sang along, we might go far,
He would play the tune and all that I’d do was croon.
Hope the money comes in real soon.
2
He makes good music in an older style,
His nimble fingers make the people smile,
When I start the singing some will run a mile,
Others are more polite, just leave the room for a while.
Bridge
Syncopated music fills the air
And everyone agrees he’s got a certain flare,
Pluckin’ an’ a strummin’ with no time to spare
Leaves me kinda breathless; Someone bring a chair?
3
Regardin singin’ , seems I lost the vote,
People always said I couldn’t hold a note.
I think this guy thinks that I make him sound good,
He’s a nice guy so I help him like a good friend should.
Instrument
Middle eight
We were rollin’, drivin’ round an’ strollin’,
Playin all the venues we could find,
From New York to Nebraska,
Even gigged in old Alaska
We were Stars, but only in our mind.
Instrument
4
We played a place they called it Roanoke,
The people there were kinda nice and jokey,
We thought that we were famous
When the Sheriff went and named us…
Just before he ran us out of town.
5
We took the backroads with guitar in hand,
And everything from then on went to plan,
‘Till the night when I felt foolish
‘Cause some guy said I sound Ghoulish,
But I paid him back and sang another line.
6
So we kept on rollin’, playin’ songs and strollin’,
Playin’ all the venues we could find,
We walked the walk and talked the talkie
From New Jersey to Milwaukie,
Yes we were Stars; we were Stars? Yes, We were stars….
But only in our own minds…. Aaahhhh!

Keep it goin, man, keep it goin... &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:21:14 AM
Maurice, your wit is delicious, and your delivery of your perfect lyrics is wonderful. Mark, your guitar is laid back and cool. An excellent coffeehouse collab, which I enjoyed very much. [ Reply to This ]
Hi Roxie &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:29:00 AM
thanks for that... my problem was, with those tongue twisters in there, I nearly broke a hip.... and then I WOULD have needed that chair LOL. Glad you liked it, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
L.O.L.! &mdash 06/18/08 - 08:14:45 AM
Wow, what a delight this is! Wow... this is the most perfect unlikely pairing I've heard in a long time. Of course, Mark has an absolutely beautiful piece of music there, and plays it soooo smoothly, Maurice, I think you steal the show on this one. You got me smiling all day with your well-thought-out, perfectly-timed-n-rhymed self-deprecating tongue-in-cheek lyrics and delivery.
Standing ovation for the great performance and silliness, both of you! Bravo!

Well &mdash 06/18/08 - 10:13:20 AM
thank you for the ovation Drak; I'm so pleased it had that effect on you..... It took a while to think out the lyrics, but once they started to come I just looked up Google Earth for something to rhyme with 'Jokey' and I was awayyyyyy LOL. Nice to perform too with Marks great guitar as backing. Again, thank you for your kind remarks, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Moviz &mdash 06/18/08 - 09:03:44 AM

LOL, Mark &mdash 06/18/08 - 10:18:41 AM
It won't be Roanoke! Thanks for letting me use your lovely guitar as a soundbed for my humour.... Once I got into it, I loved doing it, but as I said before I got a bit tongue tied as I practiced. I'm just pleased that you like the result, cheers M [ Reply to This ]

...made me smile so wide my face hurts! Ha ha...
Mark's guitar playing was/is sublime as per usual.
Your lyrics are a total HOOT Maurice, and your vocal delivery is wonderful. As Skean (Kenta) suggested, they fit with Mark's tune hand-in-glove.
Enjoyed this VERY much! BRAVO!

Well &mdash 06/18/08 - 04:10:29 PM
Jazz isn't really my thing - but folk is... Always enjoy your lyrics and the delivery is spot on - you are in fine voice. I do have a couple of very minor crits on the production - there are some explosive 'pops' - sounds like you're not using a pop filter or perhaps you're just a bit close miked and there's a fair bit of hiss - it disappears at one point - not sure if it's from the mic pre-amp? I've not been aware of either on your recordings normally. Otherwise, the sound quality is excellent.
All the best
