oooh... love it... &mdash 06/20/08 - 09:52:45 AM
I love the way the slow phased beat-frequencies add a bit of rhythm to this. Nice mixing to fill the spectrum, and the drums come in at the right spot... the droning zoning was working, and I swear the ripples in your artwork started to move... I was wondering how you'd finish this... nice soft climax and melting away. I can imagine a little more EQ work to open this up slightly and lengthen the reverb delay for the sparkly bits. It sounds like you're on the edge of too muddy with regular reverb on the drone tracks, maybe? I'd tighten them up a little and give a little more space for other occasional effects (like the percussion) to echo way out there, give some more subtle ear candy.

Good advice. &mdash 06/21/08 - 12:49:41 PM
Thanks, Drakonis. You've given me some new ideas. I think, just for example, that the guitar drone, which was done in single takes on single tracks could have been done one bit at a time on separate tracks. That would have given me more control. [ Reply to This ]

it is a dream... a tangerine dream? it is a beautiful dream. i wish you were here. it is familiar, but unique. many subtle shifting layers. i am studying this. 0x0 [ Reply to This ]
Thanks IC. &mdash 06/22/08 - 04:49:15 PM
Subtle shifting layers. Hmmm. Yeah. I could never reproduce that exactly. Each guitar section (one for each key) was a one-take deal, and with the setup I'm using, the product is EXTREMELY sensitive to what I do with the guitar and the volume pedal. If I did it again, there would be different patterns. I actually like that. [ Reply to This ]

Man, that's a spun out guitar. Interested how you got it to sound like that. There's a complete absense of any sort of attack and decay.
That phasing effect? Love it, hate it; I haven't decided yet....
Cool sounds in general. [ Reply to This ]
Any relation to ... nah ... nevermind. &mdash 06/22/08 - 05:03:51 PM
Actually the phasing effect is just the repetition rate of the GT-8 delay. The lack of attack is just from using a volume pedal. The setting is delay/hold, so that whatever goes in is echoed endlessly with zero decay. If I hold a note longer than the rep rate, it will sound continuous, which creates the drone. If I make the note shorter than the rep rate, it will go on forever, but it sounds at the rep rate, which sets up a tempo that might sound like a beat frequency. I can add those together because the volume pedal doesn't control anything that has gone before.
Thanks for commenting Vic. I have enjoyed reading your opinions on other songs too. I appreciate honesty and constructive criticism. [ Reply to This ]

your patience in making music like this. I'd messed it up in an instant, but you let each section take its time to sink in. Way cool and very inspirational. A certain fav and dl! Thanks a bunch!!!

Patience? Mmm, maybe ... I dunno &mdash 08/29/08 - 01:39:02 AM
Thanks again for your support, Henke. So far, this is my simplest, and in some ways, it's my favorite (just between us). Always liked drone music. But I'm sure it must try the patience of the listener! Definitely night time music. [ Reply to This ]
