Description:
Here is the opening number from my “Alive and Naked at the MJ Coffee House” performance.

At first I was a tad intimidated by the audience. It took a couple of songs before I really found my stride. I hope you like it.

Be well!

Lyrics:
ENTROPY

Well the sun it rises,
I open my eyes;
another new day begins.

But before I can blink
you know that “fat old sun”
is sinkin’ in the West again!

Well the days they fly by much too fast;
they be runnin’ thru my fingers like sand.
Another day...another dollar,
then I’m back on the treadmill again.

You know they say our life is “an idiot’s tale...
full of fury” without reason or rhyme,
but I got a feelin’ more is happenin’ here than we know
---much more than meets the eye.

Well I stop to smell the roses,
but the thorns they prick my hand;
then I’m dragged away by the current,
and swept back downstream again...

We’re livin’ in entropy!
We’re runnin’ down!
We’re caught in a tailspin;
gonna screw us in the ground...

We’re livin’ in entropy!
We’re doin’ time!
We’re caught in a vortex;
the world is spinnin’ on by...

Sometimes when I’m dreaming,
I get the view from overhead;
then there’s “a time for everything,”
just like ol’ Solomon said.
But the sandman packs away his kit,
and he slips into the day,
and I’m left here empty-handed,
with nothin’ but my faith...

Heraclitus says:
“You cannot step
into the same stream twice.”

Well maybe that’s true,
but “it’s all Greek to me...”
I can’t even step in once!

Well there may be “a time for everything,”
but I believe my watch has stopped;
and I find myself runnin’ at full tilt,
just to keep up with myself!

We’re livin’ in entropy!
We’re doin’ time!
We’re caught in a vortex;
the world is spinnin’ on by...

We’re livin’ in entropy!
I know it sounds rash...
We’re caught in a black hole!
It’s a molecular smash...

We’re livin’ in entropy!

Great lyrics and smooth voice and guitar. I was depressed already so I can't blame you for that. Love it. Thank you.

I'm so sorry...I never intended this to contribute to anyone's depression.

The hidden message is that, in spite of how bad things may look and feel sometimes, all is NOT as it seems! Perhaps I hid the message a little too well in this one?

Oh well, thanks for the thumbs up on the vox and guitar!

Take care friend!

Its easier to focus on the lyrics on the acoustic versions. Very much enjoyed the change. (Still like the full version too :)

Thanks

...I'm surprized anyone even remembers the old rock version! It's rather gratifying that you do!

Glad you're enjoying these acoustic takes. I hope to do a few more oldies like this; also a couple traditionals and perhaps another newbie, so stay tuned!

Be well my friend!

Another great one, Micheal, and you've got the audience in the palm of your hand. I especially like these lines: but %u201Cit%u2019s all Greek to me...%u201D I can%u2019t even step in once! Maybe it wasn't supposed to be humorous, but it made me smile. I am really enjoying your acoustic works. :-)

...I've got the audience in the palm of my software! Ha ha...

The line you like was intended as a sample of bitter irony bordering on humor; so your smile was/is NOT out of place.

Be well Sis!

Great vocals, great guitar performance, and really good lyrics. When things are "live" I almost never look for any kind of mixing high's, as a matter of fact, the rusty, old school, tape recorder quality sometimes does justice. Although, this is better. This works very well for me. Thank you.

Hey, it's good to see you are back in the saddle my friend! Thanks for the kind review. I'm having a ball doing this simulated "live" stuff.

Glad you enjoyed this!

Hi'ya Dee! &mdash 06/23/08 - 03:38:08 AM
Always nice to have you out in the audience screaming and pounding on your table! Ha ha...Although I think you should lay some cushions on the floor next to your chair in case you swoon again. One can't be too careful you know!

Glad you're enjoying these "naked" performances of mine.

Be well my friend!

nicely done there... you pack quite an enthusiastic crowd... I'll have to book in with you next time! I loved the little false ending clapping, very smirky. Excellent songwriting and performance, crisp clean recording too. Make sure to stop from time to time, and enjoy all the things you HAVE accomplished, family and friends... they are great monuments against entropy.

Truth to tell, crowds make me nervous; and I'm afraid it shows a bit in this opening number...

Honestly, I think they thought it was going to be a Weird Al Yankovich concert....Instead they got Weird Mike Warkovich!!!

At least no one demanded a refund!

I hear you re family and friends, and I concur FULLY!

Thanks for listening and commenting my friend!

Hey, Einstein... or is it Sartre? &mdash 06/23/08 - 02:03:56 AM
Your voice really comes out great in this song. With the acoustic guitar, It sounds folksy, but it's a lot more conceptual than a song about lonely nights and riding on trucks. Introspective thoughts about entropy ... you must have been a philosophy and physics lover to be able to formulate such intellectual topics into a very palatable musical form.

Great song, and quite a commanding performance.

Hello Leon! &mdash 06/23/08 - 03:52:54 AM
Yes, philosophy has long been a passion of mine (albeit not nearly as much as theology). Also, during the 80's I read everything I could get my hands on re the New Physics. So good call there, my friend!

I know I'm taking a bit of a chance performing "naked" like this, but sometimes you just gotta go for it! The Macjams Coffee House challenge is forcing me to come out of hiding, as it were. I will be rocking again soon, but first I want to do some more acoustic songs.

BTW, I really enjoyed your newbie!

Be well friend!

intimidated!? Not possible!! This is great MW!!! Really great as usual.

The guitar is beautifully played and the vocals are rich and heartful and like most of your songs the lyrics have been carefully orchestrated and arranged to make a real message.

Love it!

...for the verbal "high five" Mark!

This is one of my old rockers that I hope to re-do someday. The original mix was OK...but I think the tune deserves better than what I was originally able to give it.

I'm glad you enjoyed this acoustic take my friend!

Be well!

I can totally hear Tull on this, which is incredibly hard to pull off.
I tip my hat to you.

Bravo.

They should have cheered harder, by the way.

This is great Micheal &mdash 06/23/08 - 04:38:00 PM
I agree, this should be the opening for the show. Very good lyrics and you delivery is right on the mark. The guitar is clean and crisp and the mix of you vox and the guitar is very good. Love the way you played the audience and took advantage of the change of pace. The audience reaction holds true to form, as many time during a change up like this they will think you're done and start to applaud. Excellent Micheal.

All in all I think we have a winner here my friend.

Kudos.

I came back for yet another listen and saw that my comment had vanished.
sorry about that. I fav though, and I know I also downloaded previousely. Oh well, I am commenting now again. lol.

I recall writing- that I had another fainting swooning fit again when you sang another number in the Mj Coffee house this one.
And I said I wanted a divorce from Jack- davisamerica cos i wanted to listen to your songs always and in bed as well. So that I would be comfortable when I fainted again. listening to your great voice seriousely :)
And Micheal you yourself can give me the kiss of life in future. heee heee. Great song Mike enjoyed listening, hope the wife can take a joke
LoL

Peace Dee.

Love the lyrics...nice tune, there, Micheal...

Wondering .. &mdash 06/26/08 - 07:15:34 PM
.. about what the crowd was cheering for at the start ;)

Sounds like Tull to me too - just needs some flute and it would fit for sure.

Good song Mike - really enjoying it - I sometimes like your "unplugged" stuff more than your big production - this one especially. The false applause in the middle was a cool touch (along with the nervous "can we clap now" start to the final clapping).

Yep, very Tully!

Hi Micheal, with that title I was expecting something a bit more disordered but got a great performance instead. Like the crowd, I was fooled by the little stop before the middle section. Entropy gets us all in the end but until then great job all round!
