Description
This meets the one-man-one-mike recorded live criteria of the Coffee House aesthetic - but the similarity to many of the fine tunes presented so far ends there.
Here in Brooklyn the solo performance often expands to include other live accompaniment - often involving laptops and midi - but in this case I went old school.

I set up my Roland TR8080 analog drum machine with a simple beat and used the cowbell send to trigger a bass sequence keyed into a Sequential Circuits Pro One analog synth. Basic stuff. I ran that through an old Cube 60 Keyboard amp along with the vocals - and plugged my guitar into a Cube 40 with just a little tremelo. Then I turned everythibg on and laid down the first take to a Zoom H2 digital recorder in the room. GB3 was ued to EQ and Master - but there were no other tracks or effects added. The vocals are low - and the mix is rough - but I get shy in front of people and didn't get a sound check.
Thanks to Steve Craig (aka echoroom) for supplying me with some lyrics to mangle from time to time.

Lyrics
Paraphrased and edited from a great lyric Steve sent me called: EASY (James Kings Bible).
Apologies to Steve in advance.

1979, the first breath makes her cry
I think I was growing up, still growing up.
I saw her yesterday, a million lives away
I guess you’ve earned your wings
You pretty thing.

Take it easy on yourself
You can’t imagine being anyone
And I can understand.

They’re shooting up again, she’s falling in her heels
The summit of your thighs, I could never climb.
She’s sleeping in her fame
They’re auctioning her name
A sinking happiness, well I’m keeping mine.

Take it easy on yourself
You can’t imagine being anyone
And I can understand.

Suicide! :)
This is awesome Bud! "Take it easy on yourself", has such a great guitar, drum and bass vibes, in a psychadelic way, And that's it. And that's all that is needed except the vocals which in a dreamful, way lay out it's context. TR8080, ahh. A lot of 80's but also a lot of old school blues. The repetition makes it hypnotic.

Bud's grand one-man-band!
Like Mikkinylund said: "hypnotic!"

Well done man!

Be well!

Thanks Mike -
Some credit due here. A while back Five Extra Arms suggested the idea of doing live performances using GB and other technologies to assist. I couldn't resist the challenge - but chose to revert to the way I did it before I used a computer to make music.

There's a certain...
....churnin' going on in this swirley little song. You've simulated a Leslie speaker somehow and it has such a smoooooothe feeling. I don't GET the lyrics, but I will agree that they could use a little volume boost to really balance the recording. What a comfortable feeling you give to this song, Bud. Nice.
Peace.

That churning thing was influenced
by T Bone Burnett's production on the album Raising Sand with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. It's a tremendous recording and their touring show is well worth seeing. They're in Santa Barbara the 25th I think - my brother and his wife are coming down for the show.
The lyrics refer to a young fashion model James King who was known for her wild life style.

Thumper! What did your father say?
Love the thumping bass, although I had to leave a hand on the silverware on the table, this was "rockin' da house!" Certainly left no room for conversation, all eyes and ears were riveted on that driving rhythm and very cool music and melody line. Takes me waaaay back to college. Vibe thick enough to stand a spoon in. Nice.

I'd
love to see you perform this live.Kind of reminds me of David Byrne playing "Psycho Killer" with the boom box in Stop Making Sense. I love that guitar tone(great playing as well) and your vocal fits the lyrics perfectly.Excellent song!

There's a bar in my neighborhood
that has a great music scene with an open mike night. I tried to get a gig for my band there - but they want you to do an open mike first - which is kinda hard with a four piece. The other guitar player - LSD25 and I are gonna work out a two man and machines version of Splinter in this style.
I had forgotten about the Byrne and boombox till you mentioned it. Before I got my 4track in 1980 I did a lot of recording in my bathroom with two boomboxes.

Love it!
Great guitar work. Hypnotic. All a bit groovy and dark and brooding. Sounds like the bar scene in a David Lynch film where it all goes a bit weird! Really enjoyed this.

The hypnotic part comes from me trying to figure
out how to make the same two chords sound different every time I improvise something. I figure if I keep repeating them while searching for something new I might find that perfect nothing that just hangs in the air...uh oh - here comes that Lynch thing.

Thanks Phil

cool
Cool that you played this through your amp and recorded with one mic (H2). That is a pretty honest recording, and you captured that live feeling pretty good.

Keeping it interesting using only one chord through the song, is not for everyone to pull off. But you kept my interest all the way. Well done:) Cool guitar, singing and ultra cool drum beat!

Thanks for your comments -
this was a fun experiment. One chord? I thought I played two - but technically you might be right -the second chord was more a variation on the first than anything else. I owe all of my one note leads to Neil Young.

Interesting you would say sensuous
something about laying down a track live is a sensuous experience - performance anxiety and all - but definitely adds a different energy. Wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it though. Thanks.

simple?
Simple? Man, I 'd hate to be your soundman when things got complicated! I couldn't follow that wiring description for the life of me....now the song: setting up the drum machine, just lettin' it run and jammin' away is one of my favorite things to do in the world and this lil' number captures all the love and spontaneity that makes a one man jam nirvana. Dark, moody with shades of psycho-billy-delta. Dig!

psycho-billy-delta
is the best description yet of what has become my favorite new genre thanks to T Bone Burnett and his work with Krauss and Plant. It also sound like cool ham radio code along the lines of yankee hotel foxtrot. Thanks for your emthusiasm - nice to hear from you Philip.

Great track Bud. It almost has a "Doors" feel to it. The vocal style sounds cool over the chill music. Great post.

Hey bud, somehow I totally missed this one. This is great stuff and this is probably the soundtrack to the photos you sent me of your one man army set up.

Nice use of that particular setup. I like what you did with the lyrics and the way you sang it.
