Description:
Well right then ... this a collab with BOB RODGERS and his killer tune "Untitled" http://www.macjams.com/song/43356.
When Bob posted his original tune he left it open for a collab on lyrics and such. When we heard this tune we tripped over ourselves asking if we could play with the Bob Rodgers Band ... and when he said yes ... we were smiling! Unfortunately a week with "throat grunge" left me voiceless with some lyrics courtesy of Emma.
A 2 day recording session with Terry in Oklahoma gave the opportunity to complete our contribution to Bob's tune.
Lyric notes: I love going to Oklahoma. Terry has this great 2 story Arts and Crafts home in the Asian District near down town Oklahoma City. A huge dining room with french doors opening to his wooded backyard serves as a "studio" and during the day ... it is idyllic. Lots of sun and fresh air .. 2 cats and a daushound named Gretel ... a writer's paradise. These lyrics came in the dead of night. Thanks Emma.
Additional thanks!!!!! to Alannah for giving Cassandra a voice.
Thanks to Moviz and Feter for a sneak preview and suggestions.

Blood Red SkyMusic: Bob Rodgers [ This guy rocks]
Lyrics: davisamerica
On June the 4th at 3 a.m.
Something was lost and something was hidden
No one heard a sound
No one saw a thing
Two went down
One came back singing
With a cold black heart
And an evil eye
Don't ask here where she has been
Don't ask her if she lies
Cos if you ask her where she was that nite
She'll just say "Baby have you got a light?"
Long road coming and a blood red sky....
Cassandra moves like smoke and mirrors
Your double vision love will never make her clearer
When she says:
..... ""Turn away don't look at me.....
..........You might just fear what you can't see."
You best take it for the truth
You best take it on the run
Cassandra's out to have her fun
You an't her baby
You are more like prey
And you best not take it any other way
Long road coming and a blood red sky ....
On June the 4th at 3 a.m.
Something was lost and something was hidden
No one heard a sound
No one saw a thing
Two went down
One came back singing
Long road coming and a blood red sky
Long road coming and a blood red sky
Long road coming and a blood red sky

Cassandra - I knew quite a few girls like her.
Love the lyrics. Dark and moody with vocal delivery that do them justice.
Very cool rockin' tune! Cassandra's laugh at the end completely spooked me....nice touch! Solid performance all the way around.
Kinda Neil Young and Dire Straights and Midnight Oil-esque. Especially love the solo guitar tone.
davisamerica
has a twin sister .. Emma .. she demands i give her credit for the lyrics. Alannah has sent some things on another piece we r working on and the "laugh" just fit perfectly ... thanks!

This is an amazing piece of work, killer guitars and keys. Excellent vocals... the music is very Zeppelin-ique but the vocals are Strait-ish (as eleveneyes mentioned). Killer track by all means, I really love it and thanks for the download. Maybe my most favorite from your stuff!! Kudos guys.

davisamerica

Simple yet really strong lyrically and in performance - would have liked some of the B3 notes to hold a little longer, but just a very minor nit. Has that forward motion that I like so much. Very cool!

leemiguel2004
Great song! I found myself moving my head to the music, there is a club where I live that plays this type of music and it's great. Fab!
davisamerica
such a cool comment..... Bob Rodgers is the best
sloparts
Rocks hard and tells it like it is. Love the feel of this as I'm sure many others have said. But if they did say that, they had very good reason cause this is just awesome. The arranging and mix are as near to perfect as anyone could ask for. Great vocal, driving rhythm and the guitars sound fantastic.
The only thing I would even think to add to this would be a really screaming guitar lead in the bridge. I kept expecting it, but it never arrived. and I was let down a little. It was crying out for it, let me wail like the banshee this song sings about.
Thanks for sharing it gentleman, this is going on my iPod
Ed
davisamerica

I totally missed this! What a great rock song. Reminds me of my fave Tom Petty tune 'Mary Jane's Last Dance'. I SO want contemporary rock to go back to this sound. Thanks for bringing it back for this. Awesome collab guys. Oh great lyrics too.
davisamerica

This is down to the ground, flat out, rattlesnake nasty! There is a ornery, mean swagger to this that frickin' rocks.
Don't mess with you guys!

davisamerica
andreas .. you are very kind my friend ... really nice comments!
guygrooves
to your whole catalogue, and to say the least, I am very impressed. You are versatile and talented all the while showing your not afraid to tackle anything. I especially enjoyed your collab with mystified, the celtic number, and to be honest, pretty much all your tunes. Several are in my Itunes now, and I will be listening to all your new stuff which I hope there will be more of soon.
This one is tight, and has a latter day Tom Petty feel to it. The only thing I can think of to say as far as what might make it stronger is, a slightly quicker tempo. I kept wanting it to be a little faster to give the lyric a bit more of an intense feeling, and to rock the song up a bit more as far as the guitars (which are very cool btw). It just seemed a tad on the slow side. Personal taste is all it is I suppose, and it is very well produced and performed. Great job.
davisamerica
this is one of the nicest surprises i have had in a while. i really appreciate your comments and i know bob rodgers does too. i am so smiling .. thank you!
All the elements work great together. I really like the reserve shown on the guitar. Solid performance.
I was really digging the organ. That isn't a software instrument? Sounds good guys!
Chris

Love the laidback groove of the track, and the vocal is perfect for the music. Nice lyrics, with a great narrative feel, with some great images. (Favorite line - "You ain't her baby/You are more like prey" - love it!) A great collab, with terrific music and a great, mysterious lyric. Very cool. Nicely done to everyone involved. Kudos. Peace.
