Description
Hope you have vacation, and have a good time and some TIME to listen, because this is a 17 minutes track. If you choose to give it an ear, then also give it some patience because it is kind of getting better and better as it proceeds. Headphones recommended.
Sometimes we experience bright moments. This one is the brightest so far for this band. Even though the track consists of four different tunes, it comprises one long improvisation without any cuts or editing whatsoever. Here is what is happening:
1) We enter in the middle of an improvisation. Björn is having a good time on his fiddle, while Björna and Johannes is backing on acoustic guitars. Then when the theme ends Björn (fiddle) starts playing a melody and we soon recognize it as the:
2) Auld Lang Syne. This is the only cover of the four pieces. The other melodies are made up on the fly. And in line with the strange logics that has evolved for this orchestra the tunes are not taken up again at a later stage, they are only played once, (that is; so far, it is not any expressed rule). And at the ending of Auld Lang Syne and a short moment of silence, Björna starts out playing:
3) A "something" .. just a nice picking theme .. Johannes follows directly with some counterpointing picking .. and Björn soon falls in with violine. This tune sounds as if it was made up and arranged beforhand, but it is not. It is created exactly here as you hear it. At the end of that one, the same thing again; a short silence and then:
4) Björna starts out playing a "something" .. just some nice picking .. then Johannes follows with counterpointing guitar bumping .. and Björn falls in with violine. The tune has a different character than the previous. Even this tune has some passages that sounds like they were made up beforehand, but it is just the docility in this band that makes it. And that is part of why I - Johannes - JUST LOVE this band.
We could have chopped the recording into four peaces. One reason we instead choose to post it exactly as it was made, is that the tunes as they came naturally when we made them, are kind of natural to listen to in this way too. The time between tunes, the succession, all of it has some musical quality and naturality and it builds like a suite.
Apart from the instruments you can hear Johannes' kids trying to get attention on a few places. And on one occasion Björn is giving chord direction.
Photo: Unfortunately we don't have any photo of the band with Björn fiddeling. Here he is on acoustic bass instead (right).
