Description:
Well, this is the new Fritters song, but since Kelli couldn't make it to the gig, I decided to do my own solo version. Just Jim singing and playing, and trying to keep it together doing both at the same time.
Here's the original version with Kelli singing it
Lyrics:
I can hear it in the country
I can hear it in the trees
I can hear it in the subway
sounds like love
I can hear it in the ocean
I can hear it in wind
I can hear it in the desert
sounds like love
Go on make it loud
Go on make it heard
Keep on making
Sounds Like Love
Sounds Like Love
Sounds Like Love....
I can hear it on the playgrounds
I can hear it in the streets
I can hear it in the fields it
sounds like love
I can hear it in the mountains
I can hear it in the homes
I can hear it in valleys it
Sounds like love
Go on make it loud
Go on make it heard
Insist on making
Sounds Like Love
Sounds like love
Sounds like love...
You've got to make them listen to
Sounds like love
Sounds like a winner
sounds like a good idea
sounds like please and thank you,
and sounds like hello friend
Sounds from without
sounds from within
sounds like the answer
sounds like love.

Loved the Fritters version and love this one too &mdash 06/28/08 - 04:22:51 PM
more of a Richard Thompson thing going on - which is a fine thing. Excellent Coffee House track. [ Reply to This ]
A lot of sound from just you and guitar... &mdash 06/28/08 - 07:45:30 PM
It sounds really good, Jim. What tuning is that?
You managed to really get the impact and immediacy of live performance in this, so it doesn't end up sounding 'rough' or limited in any way.

dadgad &mdash 06/29/08 - 08:35:30 AM
Standard old dadgad, my fav...
I did just play it live, two mics, one for vocal and one for the guitar. I was trying out a new Taylor GC3. I took it back to The Music Emporium and exchanged it for a GA3 and the next version of this song will probably be a bit different yet again! Thanks for the comment! [ Reply to This ]

really does take me back to my old coffeehouse days.
Very nicely done, Jim. ;)

Lovely recording Jim &mdash 06/30/08 - 02:16:52 AM
Such a pro sound you get - guitar and voice both clean and full of acoustic range - lots of headroom is able to take the pretty intense increases in volume on the guitar.
Great little song - a Fritters version will be worth waiting for too.
Good performance Jim.

great sound. the acoustic sounds very nice. vocals are great, especially that first loud part - kinda gravelly. also a big fan of the bridge (if you want to call it that?) at around 2:42 you hit a really cool chord, with some 7ths it think? nice work! [ Reply to This ]
that chord &mdash 07/01/08 - 07:04:41 PM
It's a Bm7 chord with an extra G note thrown in there for a little complexity. In DADGAD, it's an easy fingering. From low notes to high notes, it's X-2-4-0-0-0 so you can see it's a lot of open strings.
I'm working on another version in DADGAE so that I can play it in the key of A with some of the same voicing, and it will suit Kelli's voice better, but maybe we'll keep it in this key, I don't know. It's a fun song to play. Our typical sort of structure where we stick the bridge onto the end of the song, rather than right in the middle.

Hi Jim, Great solo performance with real impact. The vocal and wide ranging guitar dynamics make it exciting to listen to.
Great job

Sounds like Don McLean. I think he could have had a big hit with this song. Did you write this? It's very appealing.
Guitar work is very strong. Great to hear acoustic guitar played with real technique, and not just strumming (not that there's anything wrong with that!).
Best,

what a vocal performance! &mdash 07/08/08 - 01:01:27 PM
the guitar is wonderful, but your vocal really steals the show. I especially like the line "sounds like please and thank you" but there are so many moments in this song that touch, that are just fun to listen to. [ Reply to This ]
