Description:
This one's what you might call a hurtin' song.
Lyrics:
the mornin sun rays hit the table thru my front room window pane
where last night's empty bottles are all that still remains
the songbirds gaily singin as theyre winging on their way
a beautiful day for livin', so i won't drink today
sometimes you get to thinkin things can't be like this no more
especially when you have just passed the night upon the floor
i wish it was the day before the night before today
lord i'm sick and tired of drinkin, so i won't drink today
i don't drink because she left me
& i don't drink to forget
she left because of my drinkin
i ain't forgotten nothin yet
i don't drink out of habit or because i'm sad and blue
i just drink because i want to, but i can't say why I do
i guess my only friend's the bottle, no one else would understand
and it rattles the glass as i pour it out with a tremblin hand
its always booze for breakfast, i just can't go on this way,
that's why every morning I tell myself, i won't drink today
yes every morning I tell myself, I won't drink today.

That's some powerful lyrics Relic &mdash 06/30/08 - 11:18:22 PM
and a fine vocal to deliver them. The band sounds like they been there done this before and keep the song moving on through.
I like what you've done here, it's a very good song my friend. And I'll drink to that.
Great job Relic

Authenticity of this is fantastic I think, I love the vocals and the harmonies. Great lyrics and backing, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
Very authentic &mdash 07/01/08 - 04:59:58 AM
Sounds like a cross between a genuine olde country LP and a twisted Flaming Lips out-take. You can never argue with a drinking song....well, you can but it won't get you anywhere. Nice lead guitar solo as well. Well done.

Cry over the Bottle &mdash 07/01/08 - 07:27:09 AM
so fitting and I really love your voice on this. The guitars are great and the rest of the back up is right on. I can see I've got a lot to learn here in Tennessee. Thanks for sharing.

Great lyrics. I love songs with day math. The Avett Brothers have a song where the line goes something like, "But nobody what lies behind the days before the day we die". It makes you stop and think about what the hell time period they're talking about. Brilliant. Great job! [ Reply to This ]
This tune had me shaking my head in wondr &mdash 07/01/08 - 09:28:01 PM
wondering how you manged to tell an old story in such a great new way - direct - to the point - with a wink and a nod and whole lotta truth too. Fantastic. Great song and excellent delivery. [ Reply to This ]
thanks &mdash 07/02/08 - 12:10:46 AM
Thanks Bud, initially I had a bunch more verses but it soon became apparent that the song was going to be 5-6 minutes long! I believe that would constitute cruel and unusual punishment for macJams listeners....

Reminds me &mdash 07/03/08 - 09:11:10 AM
Reminds me of songs like "Red Rubber Ball" by Cyrkle, or anything by Herman's Hermits. I also hear echoes of "Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road" by Loudon Wainwright III. I like the vocal harmonies. Well-conceived and executed. Guitar work is pleasing and well-played. You make it seem easy, but I am sure that you have been playing and practicing for years.
The song sounds a bit humorous, but illustrates the point that we all struggle with bad habits, and (I'll go ahead and say it) sin. Reminds me of Romans 7:19 "For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do%u2014this I keep on doing." [ Reply to This ]
nicely done &mdash 07/03/08 - 11:36:15 AM
Well ... I gotta say, I enjoyed this. Reminded me of the classic Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen songs of the early '70's.
Loved the line about wishing it was the "day before the night before today" - wish there were more clever and interesting lines herein to better support the song.
Regardless, it is a fun listen if you enjoy this style of music (which I do). Loved the vocals and arrangement.
Well done. [ Reply to This ]

hell yeah &mdash 07/18/08 - 12:06:35 AM
true country with an indie rock edge. dont know how i missed this but im glad i checked it out. reminds me of the theme to 'Fall Guy', one of my favorite TV show themes ever. Great job. Guitars sound absolutely great. [ Reply to This ]
Great Lyrics, &mdash 08/18/08 - 08:03:25 PM
But I think we need to do a little serious production work on this one.
The singers vocal wanders around too much hunting for notes, but then again, he may be drunk. The lead guitar part is good, but the sound is a bit thin, and there's other things it needs for sure.
All that said, it's still a great song and I really like it in spit of the flaws in the production. That says there's something special going on here. Keep up the good work, and improve on the not so good and you may have a #1 hit on your hands if you're not careful.
Be well and be cool,
