Description
From Cat:
I really had no intention of doing a version of The Orbiting's "Wake Up," but as I listened to the remixes in succession, something in the lyrics caught my attention, and then my imagination.

"...they were stealing your dreams from you..." reminded me of an X-Files episode where one of the characters says "They were stealing my memories." Approaching the remix from that angle, I recorded spoken and sung additions, then turned it over to Bryn to 'space it out.'
And did he ever, rebuilding it from just the vocal tracks up. B--you're a genius ;) Thank you!

Thanks to Lisa and Matt for letting us take artistic license in remixing your song.

Wake Up -- The Orbiting
Additional vocals -- Mystified
Instrumental rebuild, spaced-out ambience -- Particledots (Bryn)
(Cigarette-Smoking Man -- SteveL :)

From bryn -
Here is a remix of the orbiting's wake up tune. Cat started the ball rolling on this and sent me the (x) files to mix.
I have to be honest...I still haven't heard the orginal at this point, so I have no idea how this sounds in comparison and how far I have deviated from their original ideas

wow you two - this is so cool! When I saw this post I was momentarily confused "oh cool - The Orbiting, no wait, it's Sonic Magpie" - then WOW, they're all TOGETHER!! Two of the most creative and wildly imaginative collab teams, together at last! This is a total trip - I love it! (more please!)

Still haven't heard the original yet so although I had the seeds to sow, I have no idea what the original plant was like.

Wow
wow, I thought I did something different with my remix, but you really did some cool cool stuff. That shifted vocal part is very nice, and I like the rhythmic drive you keep throughout this. And the spoken ledeb part in the middle has a really great vocal sound, very present. Perfect!

Minotaur, yes....?
Okay... I'm just a little frightened... doctors office groovy... more the smell than the sound... am I being opaque...? I wonder what the video for this would look like? I'm hoping there would be none of those human body with bull head, Minotaur, yes....? How did I get here...? Those sounds in my ears made me come here...

Strangely...
I already told Cat this, but the night that you posted this, I woke up in the middle of the night and thought, "I wish Cat and Bryn would do something with 'Wake Up'." The waking up in the middle of the night part isn't weird, I do that all the time, but it's an interesting coincidence given the eerie nature of this remix.

I truly can't say enough good things about what you guys have done here. I've been listening to the song non-stop since you posted it and there are just so many incredible details. The use of space in the track is just unbelievable, absolutely masterly. It's not easy to get that many layers so clearly audible and clearly placed all at once. What amazes me most about the production is that the sense of space is even evident on my crappy, crappy G4 Powerbook speakers. Listening on headphones is just such a delight.

People have talked about the trippy nature of this and it's true, but what stands out to me is what a good, listenable piece of music you've made at the same time. This isn't a novelty number. I love that main synth line and the forward movement in the bassline is terrific. Cat's voice sounds wonderful and the way you've mixed us together is great, Bryn. It seems perfectly natural to have two female singers (although how weird is it that I'm singing lead while Cat sings back up? LOL!) Love the Steve additions, as well and it's very nice the way you brought one of the original Wake Up synths in at the end.

Truly, I love this, you guys. Thanks to you from me and Matt.
