Clark.Just curious- do they teach jazz or electric guitar at your school or just classical?

composerclark said 494 days ago (July 2nd, 2008)
Curious
We only teach classical guitar. I grew up playing a variety of styles, and I'd love to see us expand the styles we teach, but for now it's just classical.

bet your fingers are a blurr as you play this Mark. Just a great sound and the way you temper the mood with those little breaks, is like your telling a musical story in paragraphs; excellent as always, regards M

Fantastic
Nice Chops, you really have mastered some fine music here. Reminds me a tad of Steve Howe, you know I always thought he should have played the GOO. Thanks for sharing this special piece of music.

Steve
Howe was a big influence on me years ago- he got me interested in a bunch of styles I probably would never have checked out.I'm sure there are a few riffs stolen from "The Clap" in this!

Plainly...
...you're just not getting out enough. You're sitting in your lonely room with the tube radio, dialing in the country stations and listening to old Chet Atkins LP's...

And plainly, you're not challenged enough by life, generally.

That's why I'm going to start the MacJams Surf Music Beach Party! You know, a little Ventures, a little Dick Dale... Maybe a super-fast beach version of 'Third Stone From The Sun'... Cute little quotes from 'Wipeout' and 'Walk Don't Run' and so on...

After that, it's on to the 'Yngvie Invitational'!

Please stand by...

Ed

great tone
great country, tele-like tone you achieved. masterful picking, yet again. very jazzy progression/bass notes at times. very cool. and i have to agree with yeman, if you did this in one take - the rest of us should just give up now and quit playing guitar.

Lived in...
...a small Ohio town for awhile. There was this guy played regularly at the lounge of a local hotel. Lots of Chet. Lots of great. Guy could pick on a guitar like nobody's business. This sounds sooooooo much like him. Amp settings/style/feel...

Fine post, Mark. Sometimes your playing blinds me to how great the compositions are...as though you're playing someone else's piece. Then I remember it's yours...keep 'em comin'

I wonder if the guy you are talking about
was a high school friend of mine named Terry Efaw. What a talent he is. When I first heard this I thought of listening to him just "noodle around" when we used to go to his house.

He was born in Athens county and I think he still lives in the Columbus area.

Greats
Greats like Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, and Glen Campbell would all be tapping their toes to this fantastic track. Your playing seems to do homage to their style.

This sort of complex playing just demonstrates that at this level of playing, it's just as much about training your brain to think in different layers as it is about finger technique.

Bright and cheerful. Music is fun, and you have proven it again!

for the comment.Country music seems to have been taken over by male (and female) models in jeans and cowboy hats who sing songs written by song writing task force in Nashville. There a couple of guys like Vince Gill and Brad Paisley who can really play but there gettin' as rare as hen's teeth and frog fangs.

I really
just picked it up on my own.I learned "Deep River Blues" by Doc Watson and went on from there. There is a good book called "Fingerstyle Guitar" by Ken Perlman that I use for teaching.
I'm not using an amp- just straight into Line6 Gearbox, Ableton software. Thanks for the positive feedback- I played background music at restaurants/parties for years and was completely ignored.I'm glad some people like it.

Wonderful guitar
This is my first time hearing you. Very reminiscent of Chet Atkins at his laid-back best. (I got to carry Atkins' guitars for him once--before I interviewed him-- when I lived in Nashville, but that is another story.)

Excellent piece!

Hopelessly Fawning
It's easy to comment on some songs. But there are some, like this, that so completely impress me that I'm thrown off my listening game.

What most strikes me is that you're not showing off here so much as sharing a style that you've mastered. This is the antithesis of the playing that used to impress me in the 70s when I thought Mahavishnu John McLaughlin (sp?) and Larry Coryell were hte pinnacle of guitar artistry (when in reality, Django had them beat by several fingers.)

And so, too, do I appreciate the new life you bring to Travis, Chet and other fallen guitar heroes.

Check out my latest song called Yours and Mine
Ibstrat said 466 days ago (July 30th, 2008)
Don't
know if I have really mastered it, but I like to fool around with the Atkins type stuff. I tried to play like Maclaughlin for awhile- I was terrible at it.(I still love The Inner Mounting Flame)That whole playing really fast thing lost me at some point- maybe because too many other people were doing it.I do like some fusion stuff esp. John Scofield. Thanks for your comment.

I've listened to nearly your whol repertoire. I can't comment on everyone or i'll wear the letters off my keyboard so I'll post one generic comment.

There is no doubt that you know how to play guitar. You've get such an amazing tone and some of your runs are superb.

Absolutely amazing guitar palying.

Thanks!!!!
