This is the follow-up piece to a song I posted 2 weeks ago called Decisions (http://www.macjams.com/song/43813)
I had a very difficult time getting the mix right on this, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Id bring down the guitar a bit but other than that its quite quite yummy indeed.

It's a pleasure to watch your musical development on MJ! I love the feel of this piece, your excellent choice of instruments and changes - GREAT build. While you should consider the source, I like the guitar level - very effective to my ear. Congratulations on this kassia!
Roxylee
and how you arranged them. You are so creative and talented! I really like how you build the feelings, and leave us at the point that begs for the next installment. (which I hope is coming!) :-)
drakonis
Cool stuff in here... Very nice build in the middle. When I think of doubt, I would think of dissonance, and you added some in the end, with the unresolved synth note, which was good. But there was none in the beginning, perhaps a little in the beginning too? I think the circuit-synth-blips were slightly too loud... perhaps lower their volume a bit and maybe give their track a 30% AUMatrixReverb of Medium Hall (to make them sound farther away and richer and more echoey.) Gorgeous piano work as always, nice guitar bits, well done!
ttfn,
Drakonis
PS-I probably shouldn't mention this, but right after the crescendo, you start off with a xylophone, and I immediately thought of Karen, there's some musical cross-pollination going on there? :-)
kassia
WHAT!?! I thought I got it all off! ACK!
magnatone
now wait just a gosh darned minute here! I had NOTHING to do with the xylophone! This is an outrage!
drakonis
Drak slowly backs away from the strange sweet-smelling cloud of yellow dust that billows out from Magnatone's Hawaiian-print shirt when she folds her arms in mock-disgust... there's a pungent, slightly percussive smell in the air.
magnatone
Mock Disgust?? Clearly this disgust is real, after all if she'd paid ANY attention to me you'd be hearing tubular bells, crashing cymbals, and other well known kitchen sink elements. Do you hear anything like that? (hmmm, is THAT why this sounds so good??) And, how do you know it's a Hawaiian shirt?? Never mind - don't want to know!

karen and drak ... into different corners till told other wise ... i need some quiet to enjoy this .. :-]
Killer track Shay. Draki and Magna said it for the effects and mix but it sounds really fine to me. Amazing choice of instrument and wonderfully played and composed. (I loved that guitar! :))

I know that's a stupid way to start a comment but... This seems well mixed to me on first listen. I'll give it another listen when I can increase the volume in my studio (after everyone wakes up). Compositionally, it's really good...I like the harmonic development and the transition to the center section adds some variety to the rhythmic structure. The only thing I might change is the level on the Xylophone arpeggios. I think they may stand out a little too much. Even switching to a Marimba or rolling off a little of the high end on it may help. Then again, that's just my personal taste too. Generally another fine piece!

... it's fabulous ... I have come to expect nothing less from you now .... personally I never hear all those little nuances that other people here ... it all sounds grand to my ears !

Kassia, you are one talented lady and I simply adore your music. Very, very entertaining and so pleasant to listen to. Thanks so much. (Just goes to show you when you have friends like Karen and Drak and Futz....you just cannot go wrong!) :)

and evocative piece of music. Once again i hear amazing creativity and flow, I love the feel to this. I reckon a bit more guitar might do it and/or some beautiful voice, but as is i will be playing it and enjoying it a few more times as is. Cheers

What's not to like? Gee this mix was tough...
Hum... I'm sitting here with my headphones on imagining a dark spy thriller and lots of darking and dashing about in alleys...
Ok I know you didn't have that in mind when you wrote this but gosh it could be cinematic! I mean it took me right there!
As the guitar comes in fuzzed, the hero has just done the dirty dead and is shuffling away in disgust...
Ok sorry... distracted again. Very easy with a mono-cell brain like mine...
But ya ok mix... lets see I can think of 10,000 things I'd do wrong but hum... not one I can hear that you did wrong!
This is beautiful, gorgeous, outrages, provoking, imageful (is that a word... if not I just created it), spectacular...
And oh yes... the mix... it sucks big time... oh wait... that would be if I did it... ya... Kassia... its perfect!
I think I loved it... hang on... let me check... ya I loved it... maybe its all this pollen thats got me so edgy...
MarkHolbrook
if I misspelled any more words in that comment I probably wouldn't be able to understand it... ok mono-cell brain... lets get some spell checking going on here...

it is music with hesitation. it is sometimes confused. i know this place. however, there is a piano. it is a piano that creates a continuity. there is always a path. it is a good path for you. follow the piano. it creates beauty. 0x0
If there's something wrong with this mix, it's beyond my ability to detect!
Wonderful arrangement and playing!
Be well!

this is a great tune! well written and recorded. nice sad/melancholy piano part. great dynamic build, i'm a big fan of that. like the interesting choice of instruments too. was it xylophone near the middle?
kassia
Yes, xylophone. And some kalimba as well. Thanks for listening and leaving such wonderful comments!
Brilliant Piano. I love it. I hear Magnatone in this somewhere :)
if I say that, you know its a a little winner.lol
Magnatone is excellent at what she composes also.
I love this too.
Well done.
Peace Dee.

for rumination. Agree with Karen's point. Your work gets better each time!

I can almost hear echoes here of Michael Nyman's soundtrack work with Peter Greenaway's films in the chord structures and progressions
Lovely

I find this song has a very nice modern feel to it, with more bravery than the other works of yours that I have heard so far. Now, mind you, EVERYTHING I have heard has been phenomenal, so it's difficult to place what I'm trying to say. Essentially I feel you are being more adventurous here with your exploration of melody and tonality, and even the ending demonstrates it. For me the fact that you chose not to "close" the last phrase is a hallmark of the bravery you showed the whole way through. In summary, a very nice expose of classic style and ability translated through a modern emotive sensibility.

But, hey, I don't know how to explain that and honestly, it was a well done piece. Thanks.
