Description:
It's a little known fact that the the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire gave birth to a hybrid music crossing rockabilly, country, punk and baroque, jazz and free form poetry.
The result was Malvern Hillbilly music
Drums are BIAB but the rest is me.
Out of tune Yamaha 11 string guitar
Ibanez bass
Fender Strat

Lyrics:
and for Micheal!Abducted by Aliens © Dick Langford
I was abducted by aliens, whilst I was waiting for my bus
They were from Alpha Centauri, but they looked a lot like us
They said that I had to show them, everything that I could show
When you're abducted by aliens it would be rude to say no
I knew I had to show them just how civilised we are
So I said we should take a walk down to the nearest bar
We started on best bitter and I lost count after eight
And two or 3 hours later, we were all best mates
They said you're polluting the rivers, polluting the land, air and sea
With a shrug of my shoulders I said well it don't bother me
When you talk to the aliens they'll show you the good they can bring
Being abducted by aliens puts a different slant on things
One said she was Sarah that's not alien to me
She said they only have weird names in Hollywood movies
I said I liked her perfume and it made me feel alive
She said that it was made on Mars, Canal Number 5
Intergalactic relations took a further step that day
I got home after midnight and fell asleep straight away
And so it was the next morning when I didn't feel too bright
I'd been abducted by aliens, at least that's what I told the wife

I used to live on Malvern Road in Worcester and always reckoned that West Malvern was Deliverance country where conversation would stop as you walked in a pub.
Thanks Maurice!

interesting acronym.... loved this. very appropriate for new country. also, it fits into the whole humerous country songs of the late 70's/ i could hear you on tour with the gut who wrote Convoy....heh.

p.s., fantastic solo....
DWL
I'm not sure they'd have let me anywhere near the theatre :-)
Thanks for the comments on the guitar :-)

Great one Dick! Reminds me of the Byrds' "Mr. Spaceman."
Very well done. Smokin' basslines throughout (Neil Porter will be envious!). That guitar soloing is classic and fits the genre like a glove.
If you get around to it could you post the lyrics?
Be well friend!
DWL
I didn't post them at first so the punch line was a surprise.
Thanks for the comments Micheal. I'm pleased the little guitar break went well. Just trying to show that I can do something than just make noise :-)
Cheers
Dick
...for posting the lyrics. I'd figured out most of them as your vox is recorded clearly; but there were a few words I was uncertain about.
BTW, now that I have your avatar AND these lyrics, I just may have YOU figured out at last! Ha ha...
Take care man!

Abducted! I knew something happened to some of the regulars around here.
BTW, this is a really good piece of rockabilly. Nice theme.

Love this little ditty you put together for GOOC Dick. Reminds me of when the mother ship dropped me off here on the wasteland and I had to figure out how to get along with the locals.
Great track, love the music, the lyrics, you vocal, the whole 9 yards. And Sarah is one fine looking alien my friend. She says to say hello by the way, and that she misses you.
Be cool my friend,
Ed

Alcohol can do funny things and it seemed like a good idea to say "Nice to see you big boy" at the time -- oo-er missus

These wives have an uncanny ability to see through these well-thought-out, fool-proof alibis, don't they. ;)
Funny stuff, Dick... and well sung and played. Nice job on the electric solo. Some of your singing flirted with a Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead similarity. The only thing I'd tweak is the bass part. It was a bit too subby and therefore lacking much definition or punch.
Next time, try the... "I was attacked by the Wolf-Man alibi." That's sure to work. ;)
--- Joe
DWL
Wolfman eh?? Worth a try :-)
I had a lot of trouble with the bass and probably spent more time tweaking the EQ than I would have done by simply playing it again but picking nearer the bridge.

is an absolute classic! As good as anything John Hiatt has written.Wicked guitar solo!
DWL
Comments about the break from you are very welcome (I reckon you'd have done it better though!)
Thanks for the John Hiatt comparison. I am not worthy...

........ I want to turn the tables and abduct the aliens. And no probes.
Tunes full of Sputnik! The bass has a great upright tone.
Did the aliens abduct that missing string and didn't return it?
DWL
They'd have a quite a song there.
And the aliens want a fortune to return my missing string

I found another favorite artist. Great thing about these challenges is the new artists you discover. I am a fan on the merit of this song alone. This is clever, cute, well written and performed. Nice to find you Dick.

Sounds a little like Nick Lowe - a good thing. Like the words and the performance is a barrel of laughs. "Canal #5" - now that's funny!
Great post, enjoyed it a lot.

...that's what a Brit sounds like singing hillbilly style!!! Hey. I like it. And a great driving rhythm to make the number cook all along the way. The lyrics are a sort of eccumenical intergalactic thing: a little unusual , but fun. Your production is, as always, really well done and beautifully mixed.
Peace.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Paul!

Any tune with aliens in it is good, in my book... and if it's peppy and funny, then it's extra good.

Great rhythm, and excellent rockin' country vibe. Love that bass, and the vocal is perfect (nice twang going on there!). The lyrics are classic ("I said I liked her perfume and it made me feel alive/ She said that it was made on Mars, Canal Number 5" - love it!) Nicely done. Peace.

Dick this reminds me of Flying Saucers rock'n'roll, I can almost see that yellow Sun label spinning around.
Thumbs up from me however I don't think a little bit of fast delay on the vocals would have sounded too out of place, - just a thought. Everything else ten out of ten.
Very enjoyable and catchy.
John.

Excellent, Dick...the whole thing...cheers, mate!

I couldn't get your song to play. Then, both player bars just disappeared. Didn't they swear you to secrecy, first?
On third visit, things worked as they should. That was fun!
"My only problem with alien abductions is that the (s)uckers keep bringing me back."
My page shows that I voted this song all 10z I fav it. But what happened to my comments. Very strange. Must have been the Aliens or I am going

Peace Dee.
