This is great! I like the layered beginning, and your clarinet melody against the still sonic background has a very open feel -- I imagine an wide, open plain, shrouded in stillness when I hear this.
Is that you playing the clarinet?
Tom Atwood
I wish I could play the clarinet. Even though I have played sax for 40 years (yikes!), all I can get are squeaks and squawks out of a clarinet. It is a much more difficult intrument to play. No, Clark, it is through the miracle of digital technology and GarageBand that I was able to lay down that clarinet line.
Thanks for your comments. By the way, I am reworking the "Amish Landscape" piece based in part on your thoughts about the chanting choir. I'll post it soon. Thanks again!

I love the sound and the theme of this piece.
I would love to hear a full version or at least a lengthier version. I was just settling into the music and there was silence!!
Good luck with the whole project and everything.
Take care.

Hopefully, after the doc is done, I can develop some of these themes into a more fully developed work. But for now, everything I am writing is to fit a space in the documentary, so some of them are painfully short.
Thanks again for listening!

caught me there by surprise when it ended. Certainly left me wanting more. Like Wiseman's film making you have started something in observational mode. Leaving the listener lots of room to fill in with their own thoughts. Good luck with the rest

Lovely theme, and very nicely developed. Abrupt ending, but the mood and feeling of the piece is effectively communicated. Great sound. Nicely done. Peace.
Great soundtrack, deep and full of feelings. All the best wishes for your documentary... it looks great!

The clarinet is beautiful, and very authentic-sounding. The voice leading in the various layers is well-executed.
So you're making a documentary, and writing the music for it, too? When do you have time to eat and sleep?
An excellent showcase of software instruments, and a wonderful vehicle to show off your composing chops. Enjoyable and warm.
Best,
John

Thanks for your comments - again I apologize for the brevity of this piece, but for now the music is constrained by the documentary. It has to "fit."
John - the main problem with writing the music at the same time I am shooting, logging and writing the doc is that it is too tempting to play on GB, and avoid logging tapes (which is rather like sticking needles in my eyes).
Thanks again!

it ended all too soon! I am looking forward to hearing more of this. You do a great job of making a software instrument sound real. Very moving little melody.

...or maybe, collision, of journalism and psychology...at least in your artwork and comments...
I hope I get to view the finished documentary someday. Please make sure the MacJams community gets clued in as to where or how to watch it...
