Lyrics
Do You Hide?
If I look over to the car next to me
And you look my way but refuse to see me
Do you hide?
If I was to ask, how ya doin today
Would you smile wanly and say, I’m doing great
Do you hide?
When our eyes meet
Sometimes I think I see you
Yeah I know you’re scared
I’m scared too
You… a fragile construct
Seeking refuge
Where it feels safe
Where you can be yourself (and live)
Do you hide your self to protect yourself
If I call you up later and bore you to tears
Will you pretend to care… at least pretend
Do you hide?
You’re kissing on me, our bodies pressed tight
But you’re distracted by the mundane things of life?
Do you hide?
When your parents die
You know they will
Will you be there still
Or do you hide?
And when they take you hand
With their dying breath
And whisper to you
Don’t be afraid, live…
Live…
If I look over to the car next to me
And you look my way but refuse to see me
Do you hide?
If I was to ask, how ya doin today
Would you smile wanly and say, I’m doing great
Do you hide?
When our eyes meet
Sometimes I think I see you
Yeah I know you’re scared
I’m scared too
You… a fragile construct
Seeking refuge
Where it feels safe
Where you can be yourself (and live)
Do you hide your self to protect yourself
If I call you up later and bore you to tears
Will you pretend to care… at least pretend
Do you hide?
You’re kissing on me, our bodies pressed tight
But you’re distracted by the mundane things of life?
Do you hide?
When your parents die
You know they will
Will you be there still
Or do you hide?
And when they take you hand
With their dying breath
And whisper to you
Don’t be afraid, live…
Live…

was the literal definition of alt rock, this would be the one.
this is a well written song. reminiscent of Elvis Costello, and the Seattle Sound of the early 90's. Paul Westerberg and Mark Arm in his most reflective moments.
personally, i would have liked more volume in the vocals, and perhaps a bit more production, like a slap back delay, or maybe a large room reverb. but small nits for this tune. really nice.
