Description:
Here is another track from my “Alive And Naked At The MJ Coffee House” project. I hope you enjoy it.

Be well all!

Lyrics:
THINKING

I.
Thinking about our fortunes,
and questioning our intentions.
Won’dring if we’ll ever awake,
from this dark dream
of state intervention;
as,

the solution to all our problems;
a panacea for all our ills.

Left-wing, Right-wing
I don’t care.
It’s the institution itself
that kills...

II.
Thinking about the “saviour” state;
swallowin’ up our freedoms.
Thinkin’ about the masses,
and,
how simple it is
to mislead them.

Thinkin’ about “the blarney stone,”
and the activist bullies who kiss it.
Thinkin’ back to a better time
...if it really existed.

III.
To all ye who follow,
the naked Emperors;
I offer this benediction:
One Divine tug,
and they’ll all fall down;
back to the dirt,
that they worship
and came from.

Rememberin’ “what the Doormouse said,”
How’d I ever believe such malarkey?
Bidding the 60’s a final goodbye;
...it’s time to get back to reality.

IV.
Thinkin’ about our history,
and the innocent blood shed for “justice.”
Ever so bleak,
it’ll always repeat;
since we won’t learn
one damn thing from it!

Thinkin’ I’ll sit
and noodle a bit.
and alleviate some of this tension.

I’m thinkin’ I’ll sit here
and noodle awhile;
...try to soothe
this seething dissension.

Great song. &mdash 07/06/08 - 12:15:11 PM
Micheal this is such a powerful song. I could see it being played at Woodstock and the crowd going wild. Such a powerful message. Thanks for sharing this gem of a song. I can hear in your vocal, this is something you believe in deeply. I do too. Thought provoking and powerful what every great song should be.

Cool lyrics. I guess what's left is to be a builder of ourselves and each other, no?

I enjoy the performance. Next best to being there!

Peace,
Doug

that i really like your acoustic work, and it really sounds like a concert performance. I love the guitar tuning in this; reminds me of Joni's. Great lyrics and vocals, too.

You've been digging this project &mdash 07/07/08 - 03:05:52 PM
Haven't you? Nice familiar sound. Lyrically, you always bring it. I hope others appreciate the thought you put into them, because I do.

Malarkey....... that has to be a first in a song.

Great guitar work, too.

You &mdash 07/07/08 - 06:46:12 PM
always have a great way of getting your feelings known in your lyrics and this is no exception Michael. Good vocal and a nice sound with the guitar too.... it had an Eastern sound toward the end a bit like a Sitar. Did you tune the guitar differently?, cheers M

ah... politics &mdash 07/07/08 - 10:27:37 PM
you are, of course, quite correct. power continues to consolidate itself in the face of ignorance.

must be dropped d tuning?

thanks

Another good one Mike &mdash 07/07/08 - 10:35:01 PM
Always a Tull reference (melodically in this one) in your songs - a very good thing. Maybe you should learn flute ;) And I note a touch of Mr Stills too in the solo.

Good song - More Woodstock than Coffee House, but a really good listen.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

you've really gone to town with these Coffee House songs. Another great performance - I especially like the solo part - something which you always do so well. I see 'Tull' gets a mention from Neil - When are you going to learn the flute then?

All the best
Peter

Thank you everyone! &mdash 07/08/08 - 10:40:08 AM
I'm not able to respond this time to each individual comment. Sorry...

I DO appreciate the kind reviews, and, for those of you who asked, I used the infamous DADGAD tuning on this one.

RE my learning the flute: It'll never happen. I've tried the flute, the tin whistle, and several different recorders. I can't seem to get anything more than ear-piercing screeches out of them. Something to do with my lips I think! Hey, at least I'm a great kisser! lol

Be well my friends!

...Len, Ridd, Dave and David!

I appreciate each one of your comments. Glad you all enjoyed the tune.

My Coffee House project is supposed to be an upbeat and uplifting experience, but I had to get political at least once. A man has his responsibilities you know! I'm just glad that it's promoting thought and not causing offense.

Thanks again to everyone who has listened to and commented on this piece!

God bless you everyone!

If you were a woman &mdash 08/21/08 - 06:44:32 PM
you might have burned a bra. That was very much in keeping with the thoughtful and gentle subversiveness of Pete Seegar. Rueful smiles a plenty. Great lyrics. Loved the guitar. Thanks. (No obscure references here.He he!)
