Just a lullaby to myself.

Excuse the rough singing. I gave up being particular about it. I just wanted to give you guys a sketch to listen to, as I am stumped!

Appreciate the feedback.

Tell me everything
Tell me everything

Generous is always right
Come here and let go

You fail so you remember
you are not alone

Tell me everything
Tell me everything

Love cannot exist
if you are obsessed

You fail so you remember
you are not alone

Rough! &mdash 07/07/08 - 06:12:26 PM
This is a lovely song. I think some strings could be nice - cello perhaps! Thanks for posting this as it is - always a treat having something new from you.

Strings would be a nice idea actually. I can hear that in there...I'll have to keep that in mind. It's good to get your feedback. Thanks for coming by to listen.

Ridd.... &mdash 07/09/08 - 09:08:53 AM
Thank you much! I'm relieved you liked the singing. It took me so long laying down the structure (I'm not a skillful producer), it would have taken me ages to get the vocal tracks to my picky standards, so I just let them fly as is. Hopefully not blood-curdling or anything.

I'm excited about the next song, too. Talk to you soon!

Excellent piece of song writing. Singing is very nice...not rough...fits the tune.

Nice to see you around again.

Thank you! It's sad really; my fiance and I giggle to ourselves trying not to end sentences with prepositions :P

But he's a computer guy, so he has no excuse...

TMI?

No you were right; I AM grammar, lol.

One time at a marathon, we saw a really enthused family supporting their loved one who was running...the sign said,

"Your nuts!"

I couldn't stop laughing--what about his nuts?!!!

ooooh, pretty! &mdash 07/08/08 - 10:14:32 AM
This is a great sketch... well worth developing a little more, but I don't think it needs much.

First, I love the idea of your voice overlapping in spots, you almost do it with it panned and fading on one side, then coming in on the other side... I would suggest extending the length of the last note, so it overlaps the incoming voice more, in those spots. Near the end of the piece you have dizzyingly gorgeous sung harmonies, those need to stay! The piano and guitar work is minimal, and perfect, I think. I would add one final piano chord at the very end to give some closure, but that's just me. The hand clapping seemed a bit sudden and fast for this gentle lullaby, not sure I would keep it.

Those are my thoughts. Good to hear you singing here again, thank you for sharing the music!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Drak &mdash 07/09/08 - 09:28:17 AM
You always give me the thorough run-down of my posts. THANK YOU!

I agree, I think in earlier drafts, those overlapping/panned singing parts did overlap more--not sure why I ended up singing them shorter this final time. But like I said, I gave up trying to get the "perfect" takes, so I'll keep that in mind for when, some day, I come back and re-record this.

Oh and the hand-clapping. I knew I wanted some energizing percussion of some sorts near the end, and well, my hands are always on me, so I went for it. Maybe I'll gain some sophistication later in my recording career ;)

All your feedback is very much appreciated. And I'm thrilled you liked the harmonies and thought this was a pretty piece.

:)

Beautiful &mdash 07/08/08 - 10:24:28 AM
Do you remember KD Lang? For some reason you remind me of her a little on this. Not important, however!

This is very nice. Like you say, a sketch and the voice wobbles could be sorted in places - but not too much or you could lose the innocence of the voice. You have such a range its phonomenal - the deep tones you get a marvellous, then you just shift high up the register effortlessly. Amazing.

I agree with drakonis that the overlapping vocals work very well. You gotta keep that element in there.

Really enjoyable track and thanks for putting it up here.

Phil

awesome &mdash 07/08/08 - 12:19:05 PM
really great song. like how the guitar drops out before the overlapping vocals (brings them up front and personal where they belong). i might put a rhythm track in when the guitar comes back in, if you want to take the song somewhere else, but I really like it as is. I like the claps even though they're fast. i might even put in a counter rhythm of claps and then take it out really quick like you did. i'm okay with the piano ending the way it does, but might be cool if you changed to a different sound just for that ending (like a toy piano or glockenspiel). just random thoughts as I listen, but perfect as is.

great &mdash 07/09/08 - 05:11:00 AM
Beautiful song with clever vocals how they overlap and come and go. Maybe a steel string guitar would sound better aginast the piano but if you haven't got one then the nylon strung guitar could be a bit quiter in the mix or thinned out a bit by taking some bass off with EQ. Having said that this is still great and your voice is terrific.
Thanks
Steve

...are a photogenic little pixie, arent you. Sorry its taken me sooo long to post, life's been really busy.
So , your voice is beautiful as ever (wonderful harmonies).

This begs for strings to join in.

May be a sketch, but still shows you're an artists, girlie!

I love your voice. Whenever I listen to a new MacJammer for the first time, I always spend the first few bars hoping I'm going to like the voice when it comes in. This was a pleasant surprise. Very interesting voice you have. I'm excited about it. Can't wait to listen to some more from you!

to know, lass, tell such irresistible jokes! rough singing, you say, uh? if a believed in angels, this is how i would imagine their singing be. this really broke my heart with commotion, i can assure you, so intense and powerfully touching in its simplicity. beautiful.

wow &mdash 11/21/08 - 03:38:50 PM
Could your compliment be any nicer? Geez. Thanks.

I guess I'm my harshest critic. I'm such a perfectionist. I'm so glad the song moved you. It means a lot to me.

Wow &mdash 11/21/08 - 04:41:44 PM
Now I know why I felt that track of 5 year ago was start of something beautiful...

Your voice is beautiful, and this song was a really nice song.

just two problems to me, The hand clapping sounds a little bit off the beat, and there's something with the piano chords especially in the first half of the song. some parts were just a little out of tempo,or maybe just felt that way, in my idea adding some reverb to piano line can help it sound better.

generally very well done, I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for sharing it.

A very charming song. The guitar dominates a bit in the mix. I think I like the piano part better.
