Keywords:
abandonment (6)Earth (28)mythology (9)pretentious (17)self-indulgent (3)
Description:
Part 1 of a planned three-part ambient (more or less) piece, featuring a great deal of pretentious self-indulgence on my part. The title is taken from the "The Symbol Dawn," part of "Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol" by Sri Aurobindo, which describes the state of the Universe before it awoke.

This part includes quite a bit of percussion and a (usually) a discernible tempo, so it's not particularly ambient (electronic I suppose -- it's not all that "experimental"). I'm attempting to portray some uncertainty, some conflict and turmoil, like a long-dormant machine attempting to start itself up, then failing. Earth gives way to its temporary fate, abandonment and loneliness, and is left to wheel through darkness, on its lonely course. The end of this part is a lead in to Part 2, a work in progress.

I really like the beginning, it's suspenseful. Maybe a little bit less drums? I really like a lot of the sounds and melodies, they are well laid out.

the music, concept and description. lovely pads. a very metallic sheen to the whole composition. the percussion is very tastily done. keeping it all in the vein of kool. made me think a little of blue man group at times.

And a lovely blend of synths; the percussion fits them very well. I wouldn't worry too much about genres!

I can 'see' the Earth wheeling through the cosmos as I listen. Very cool piece and another for the commuter run iPod playlist, thanks!
