Description:
This is just some incidental music, and it's one of my favorite things that I've made so far.

I made this in record time for me; something like two to three hours. It's very short and very simple, so at some point I think I'm going to add another theme to it, and expand it a bit.

The instruments aren't quite right, but I don't think I'll ever master GarageBand. Or maybe it's that there's only so much I can do.

Thanks for listening!

Thank you, as always, for your encouraging comments. I really appreciate it.

I agree, I like it as it is now, but as you say I think I can take it a little further at some point. And I too really like the Cello as well. It was a great surprise to hear it work so well with the other instruments.

Song Writing/Content: This is a really nice soundtrack creation Mike - as you say, it's short, but I can see why it's one of your favourites. I'd probably like to hear an extended and more developed version if you get around to re-doing it.

Production/Performance: Production is solid - it sounds good and there is a nice spread of instrument. The instruments do sound a little "virtual" though - I guess that's what you mean about them not being "quite right". Feter is correct, that's a great cello sound. Performance is accurate and controlled - right for the genre.

Originality/Creativity: I guess I'd have to say it's a simple piece, and there's not much new there. I like the sounds you used and the role of the piano is especially good.

Overall rating in genre: OK - the truth is, I'm not very experienced in this sort of thing, and when I listen to this I think of it against some of Magnatone's work (which I see as exceptional examples of "cinematic soundtrack"). In comparison to those, it's good but not exceptional. As a standalone piece I think most people would agree that your work on it has been really worthwhile.

I hope this is helpful,
Neil

It's definitely helpful Neil! Thanks very much!

I am already in the process of developing this more. It'll be a while, but I think this piece, while simple, has more potential. I always have trouble with the strings, and before I upload something new, I will try to recreate them to be more realistic. Though I am working with GarageBand, and I'm sure it has its limits.

You saying this is good but not exceptional is a great compliment for me. I really just started to make music, and I only have very basic musical knowledge. I'm not expecting to make anything exceptional right now, and I'm not sure I ever will. I'm okay with that, because I really enjoy the making this music. And with the feedback I get here, from you and others, I know definitely improve.

Thanks again! I appreciate it.

Mike
