now (9)just now (1)
Description:
Well, I got myself a new trumpet... so I had to get a new song with room for some horns...;)

The song is a reminder to myself of the importance of being awake during the days of my life, and appreciating the little things happening every day. It's easy to fall asleep...

Lyrics:
JUST NOW
(Thor Oliversen©2008)

I hear the birds in the garden, smell the rain that just appeared
To be inside my little room and see that life is standing still.
For a moment feeling good, feeling alive
Being at peace, together - with you.

Just now – just now.

Sitting in a traffic jam, just tired after work
Thinking ‘bout tomorrow, and what lies ahead
Hoping that the kids will make their way back home in time.
There’s a meeting at their school – so dinner’s off tonight…

Just now – just now.

Refr.:
Now – just now

And when a client calls at four o’clock, wanting something done
“Could you have it done by morning ‘cause I need to show my boss”.
Then thinking that my life is good, still breathing in and out
Leaves me feeling better – and I have some things to do.

Refr.:
Now – just now

Good to see you around. Thank you for your nice words.

A B3 sure would have added some nice touch... I felt it was already a bit crowded, so I chose to leave it as it is this time...

Thanks my friend:)

Thor(n) Section &mdash 07/14/08 - 07:38:05 PM
Is there any instrument you DON'T play Thor? The trumpet parts put your new acquisition to quick use, adding a nice touch to the production.

Another great piece with a nice blues/jazz feel. I believe I may have made the comparison before, but this has a Boz Scaggs feel to it.

Good arrangement with a pleasing array of instrumental choices and parts. The recording is both crisp and warm at the same time.

Nicely done, Thor. ;)

tricks &mdash 07/15/08 - 03:33:45 AM
Well, I think it's an exaggeration that I seem to play so many instruments... I use the few tricks that I pick up on each of them, and use that for what it is worth;)

That Boz Skaggs is one artist I'm not very familiar with. Listening now in iTunes... he seems quite versatile in style. I guess some tunes probably would fit the description more than others.

Thanks for visiting and leaving a nice comment for me. Much appreciated:)

thats life &mdash 07/14/08 - 08:15:30 PM
the lyrics pretty well sums a typical day. who can't relate to that.

some nice tasty guitar licks. I find the 335 style guitars really have a lot versatility and heres a classic example of its tone.

The addition of the trumpet sets really nice in the scheme of the tune.

as always, an excellent job

335 &mdash 07/15/08 - 03:51:32 AM
The 335 is my absolute favorite of guitars. I think it is the warm tone it has and the beautiful shape I find so attractive.

I have to keep reminding myself of the beauty of the near and little things that are making our days worthwhile. I's pretty easy to forget and be absorbed by the business around us.

Thanks for always being a supportive friend:)

Thor, really builds, and grows outward. Love the arrangement. The backing vocals add quite a bit to the flavor. The horns are the sweet touch. That and your singing/guitar work. :-)

Nice to see you've been listening pal:) I was about to ask for a little help with adding keys. But came to the conclusion that it was already pretty crowded in here...

Glad you enjoyed the horns. I had som fun playing it. That trumpet gets pretty loud when played inside a house... my family would agree to that;)

Thor .. &mdash 07/14/08 - 10:16:12 PM
.. love it when the bass comes in - sounded a little fragile (mix-wise) before that, but then really kicked off. Trumpet sounds great - REAL HORNS! Rhythm section works really well - vocals very cool (especially love the harmonies). You know I always enjoy your guitar work - though maybe the solo was a little too loud in parts.
Nice mix too, and the lyrics are as meaningful as anything I've heard for a while.

Neil, nice to see you:) &mdash 07/15/08 - 04:54:07 AM
I had the bass coming in from the start at first, but found that it had a bigger impact when entering together with the drums. I think it makes a more noticeable entrance, and gives a contrast to the sparse intro.

Glad you liked the trumpet:) I plan to practice more so I get some use of this instrument. Guess I will find a spot for it in every tune from now;)

And I agree about the solo being loud at parts... Once again, I should have waited till the next day to mix properly...;)

Thanks!

trumpet too &mdash 07/15/08 - 01:20:28 AM
u r so cool
what a hip song
you r always hitting the nail on the head with your lyrics
a friend ask me the other day "what is the most important thing in life"
he was waiting for me to say sex, but my reaction to him was, I said "this moment right here right now"

I am one to point out to my children the smell of the rain and the birds singing so they r aware of such beautiful sweet 'roses to stop and smell'
even the dinner, the traffic, the thoughts,
you r just so cool to put so much emotion and feeling into a very hip cooking tune
just fine... just now
i love the guitar riffs and i always love to here you play the harp.
the trumpet is a cool surprise(at first i was like digital horns from thor...hmmm)NOT
thanks for sharing my good friend, keep em coming, u r on a roll
thanks
so well done
love your vox too
gonna
was that your first instrument???

Hi Tim &mdash 07/16/08 - 05:38:22 PM
I'm very fond of your comments, Tim. You are very cool yourself:)

I can easily recognize the situation when your friend asked you "what is the most important thing in life"? LOL, I have some pals my self that would have expected "sex" to be the answer;)

Thank you for visiting and listening to my stuff. I appreciate your visits much!

And yes, trumpet, or actually an Eb cornet, was probably my first instrument. I played in a school brass band for some years.

As I have a new one now, I'll switch musical style, and do brass band music only. Enough with the blues and soul stuff;)

trumpet Q &mdash 07/16/08 - 11:30:00 PM
have you done much improvising with the brass horn?
I am such a fan of the jazz trumpet, such as Miles Don Cherry, Art farmer n more.
I would love to hear that.
I would love to sit in...

Sorry, nowadays I'm happy just to get a steady note out of that instrument... Will have to practise a lot to get in shape for such activities;)

But it would be cool... lets have this conversation in say... 10 years;)

the concept of the lyrics and your description. I am one of those people asleep. I will try to be more awake today at work, thanks for the wake up call.
Lovely song and real smooth sound and performance - very enjoyable listen.

Very nice song &mdash 07/15/08 - 09:17:31 AM
I really like the guitars on this. Like it a bunch when the "band" kicks it. Not a fan of the chorus thing you have on the lead vox. Should be more natural.

But, hey man this is a fantastic song. Great job.

You can blame Neil for me pointing out weaknesses. RE: "some thoughts on MJ" forum.

great tune, love that groove you have put together. It reminds me of Zappa. Rice tone on the guitar and played with some finesse and grace. Catchy little number im already jiving along and singing the harmony, not as well as you did. Please stick down some of those vibe on some of them tracks jon did.

enjoy your posts Thor. Love when the full band kicks in with that lovely balance. Great guitar there and of course vocals/ harmonies built into a really nice arrangement. Talk about a one man band LOL. Much enjoyed, thanks M

nice one &mdash 07/15/08 - 05:44:27 PM
what a great guitar sound, I knew I should have bought one of those amps. as for the horns, man that's sweet. I alway stry putting horns on my songs, but end up throwing them away because they sound so fake (they are). as for constructive criticism, at the beginning of the song, it sounded a bit like there was an effect on the vox, but when the whole band kicks in they sound right. nice song Thoddi.

Delightful &mdash 07/18/08 - 06:34:32 PM
Very catchy song, and cool arrangement. I dig this.

The guitar solo is a bit too much upfront, especially when compared to that harmonica lick around 2:45. I'd straighten that balance out a bit, and maybe cut some lows from that guitar to make it fit better in the mix.

as usual. The harp is great, and the touch of horn is working. Aren't you the multi-talented man? Good grief! Pass some over to me, man. Great soul in this, but really.

Hey Thor &mdash 08/11/08 - 05:11:05 PM
trying to catch up a bit... I love your productions... they always come across as complete and whole... something about your voice that I find compelling, an urgency that come from being right on the edge and exposed... but when you put together your back vox, they are as soulful as your playing.. I agree with vic that the guitar solo comes in a bit hot.. but that's easily fixed...

peace from NJ... great recording Thor

Feels like I'm on the same planet as some other musicians thanks to MJ and you. Good acousti-groove and layered leads. Vox (incl harmonies) sounds just right for the tone of the tune, and mixed well.
