Description:
I patched two short songs (or rather experimental pieces) together. I didn't use a metronome in the recordings. It "sounds" in time.
All me.
I hope you like this one. Any advice is always appreciated.
I'll put up a more straight foward piece next time.

Lyrics:
DiscoveredLocking my thoughts and closing the vault
I discover (I can't think of you)
Painting the pictures I cannot create
anymore (I can't think of you)
All the things I have uncovered,
destroyed, discovered, restored, have gone away
It's very pretty and oh what a pity,
remember (I can't think of you)
I stop pretending that it has been ending
I swallow (I can't think of you)
All the things I have uncovered,
destroyed, discovered, restored, have gone away

straightforward? I especially dig the descending guitar/vocall on the (I can't think of you) part.
lavalamp
Yeah, I got a lot of these little 2 minute tracks hanging around. So, I combined the two. Glad you liked it.

and works really well - I too really liked the descending guitar part. Back for another listen! I'll be downloading - thanks...

We half-Brits and whole-Brits have to stick together.

this is a trippy one indeed ...I like this solid
live feeling .I was thinkin keys might gives it
a depth but then ...I have this through the guitars
and effects ..and you used some kind of these at the
lead part ..definetly a great song my friend ...
thnx alot for sharin !!!!
lavalamp
Keys could work. I agree. These were two songs going no where, so I thought I'd put them together.

I like both pieces, but I really like the second part. Love the guitar sound and the keyboard, voices sound great. The lyrics are nicely done. The whole track reminds me of Spiritualized (which is a good thing in my book!) Very cool. Peace.
P.S. Is that picture the recently rediscovered first photograph ever taken? Very cool. And haunting. Or is that just me?
lavalamp
I thought that photo would be fitting. Glad you liked the piece, too.

the two parts work very well together. The blend worked out really well.
I liked the chimey descending guitars in the first part but I think a boost in the bass could fill it out some.
Another thought, just because the two parts work so well, you could easily reprise a bit from the first part after the second part. just an idea.
lavalamp
Good idea. But, I must say, on my speakers the bass is riding too high. I find on MJ's, much of the bass sound gets lost. Huh?
LL
Thanks, Vic
Love this Dave. Like that guitar too. That was a very good idea combining
the tracks it does work really well too. I love it.
Your voice sounds great makes me smile :) Thanks.
Peace Dee.
lavalamp
Always glad when you stop by. Glad I could make someone smile.
Thanks,
Dave
Classic tuneage here David!
Sounds like one seamless piece to me friend, but in two movements...
Very, very nice work.
Be well!

Wanna thank you for taking the time and commenting.
Thanks a heap,

great tune. really dig the vocals, though i think you could bump em up a touch in the mix. guitars sound really good and I LOVE when the distant backwards electric comes in.
lavalamp
I thank you for your support my friend. You're always so cool and open regarding my tunes.
Thanks Ridd,
Dave

isn't that what the Beatles did in Day in the Life? I read somewhere that Metallica write songs that way too (everyone just has a bunch of riffs and they put together the ones that work). Very cool when it changes, I may rip off your genius idea. if i was to make a critique, it would be:
i like the vocal effects, but maybe it would be nice if you put a clean version of the vox blended in with the effected version. really cool song though, very different.
lavalamp
I love quirkiness and "different". But, that's my downfall sometimes. Agree with the vocals. Hey, I did do all 5 parts.
Thanks, Dave

bit of a departure from your usual Dave and it really works.

I love departing.

great song Dave...love the end guitar work.
Great choice in art for the track--the first few winks of our mechanical eye...
lavalamp
Thanks for stopping by for a bit of entertainment with Lava.
Cool,

They do seem to mix as I cannot tell one from the other. Really cool experiment that worked. No real advice as it seems fine already.

Just toying with an idea. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Dave, this is a very cool tune(s) you've got here. I really like the effects you used on the vocals. I thought they fit the guitar sounds very well. Great playing on those guitars. The mix sounds really well done to my ear. Overall, I think this is a great piece - my only suggestion would have been to maybe use the second half as more of a bridge and go back to the vocals again afterwards to round out the song - cuz I really wanted it to be longer!
lavalamp
Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and to comment. And you're right, it should be extended. Maybe I'll re-post it in a couple of months.
Thanks
BTW, you've been putting up some very nice stuff lately.

Dave!? This is really great! The guitars are almost haunting. Nicely done!
The only problem is I'm gonna want more!!!
lavalamp
I'm hope the guitars didn't scare you too much......
Really glad you stopped by Mark. I always appreciate you comments and support.

I like what you've put together here. I agree with Michael about the vocal, maybe even a background copy of the vocal without effects might add an extra dimension to it.
A way of dealing with the apparent loss in bass is to have a doubled bass track with less bottom and more mids and highs. Or you could then give the bass track some solid bass-focussed compression. If you have Ozone 3, the multi-band compressor can make some huge differences if you boost the attack on the bottom end. I had the details written down somewhere - will try to find them for you.
Good post - I like the second tune best.

Here are some compression settings I've used successfully on bass:
Attack 4ms to 10ms, Release 10ms, Threshold -2dB to -10dB, Ratio 8:1, Knee soft.
Just a guide I use sometimes - you obviously need to play around with these a bit though.

Neil

Love your constructive feedback. This is what MJ should be about.
These piece was more like making a silk purse out of a sow's ear as far as production is concerned. Thanks for the advice regarding the bass. From my side it's up too much actually.
I just sort of concentrate on the writing and performing. I think I'd go crazy with all the possibilities to enhance my music. I just mess around with GB4 right now. It's cool, but rather limited and not the best for mastering, I must admit.
Thanks Neil,
Dave

Some cool effects added with some nice guitar riffs. All around solid mix. Enjoyed this very much.

a metronome Sometimes off time makes it a good time excellent lyrics by the way! I like when the bass drum just kicks and the ahhhhhs are ahhhhing very cool!

much better than a straightforward piece - but that's just my thing. I love open sounding work like this where the edges are left unpolished. Excellent playing on all counts and the lyrics and vocals are perfect. I really like the atmosphere of this one. Reminds me of early Floyd.
