Description:
When I first heard R Sorenson’s original Decaffeinated Blues I thought “wow this is great!” I just loved the feel of it, got my fiddle out, jammed along and found I could do something with it.
What I’ve recorded here was done in one take (no dubs) and only a little tweaking. I wasn’t sure whether to be subtle or go for it - so I’ve done both (and my customary restraint gets abandoned towards the end!)

Sounds great!
It sounds good when you walk up and down that pentatonic scale over RSorensen's guitar chords in the first part of the song.
But it sounds GREAT when you play the virtuoso fiddle part at the end, when you go for reckless abandon.
Eddie Van Fiddle!
Sweet!

Ha ha ha!!! Many thanks.

The original track was excellent, and the fiddle adds a wonderful new dimension to it. Great sound and wonderful playing - you have a great talent. A perfect fit, it sounds like it was always there! Very cool. Nicely done.

i don't believe I've ever heard a fiddle played like that before. you did an outstanding job with this. i love how you kept it fairly subdued until that end part- which is just amazing. thanks for taking this to another level!
Komrade K
I'm so glad you liked it - thank you for coming up with something that I found so inspiring.

That's a great blues improv. The violin is a very expressive instrument.
And remember, not every cat gut makes it to violin string!
Komrade K
Thanks for commenting Vic - I've hardly ever played on gut strings (partly 'coz I've been vegetarian most of my life!) Strictly metal or synthetics these days...
Cheers

I hadn't heard Ridd's original, but it sounds pretty authentic. What's interesting to me is the way you've worked the fiddle into and around the bed. Apart from Charlie Daniels, I don't think I've heard fiddle blues before. Some real virtuoso stuff there.
Very nicely done.

and there is a blues fiddle tradition. I often find myself slipping into the blues when I'm just improvising and I'll probably post a couple more bluesy flavoured tracks at some point. As for virtuosity - I like to let rip every now and then just to prove to myself that I can but most of the time I keep the flash stuff in a box...

...listen to/play a lot of Gatemouth Brown when I got seriously into rhythm guitar. Great, great talent...we have similar roots, I see...

Nice work, but really comes into its own in that last minute!
Komrade K
the fiddle in at the beginning and not have it dominate all the way through - my feeling was that it might be a bit dull otherwise or just difficult to sustain the energy levels. Besides I don't like playing over everything anyway - that's what I used to do when I were younger. These days l like to believe I've achieved some sort of maturity as a musician (if not as a person)!

but I see no trace. This is a wonderful collab - really like the slow amble and the mix of voices. Decaf indeed. Excellent fiddle - really great solo and support. Coulda gone on a bit longer.

Always best to quit when you're ahead...
