Description:
This is an old piano tune I had laying around. I sent it off to Mark to see what he would make of it. He did a fabulous job adding atmosphere, guitar, synths and overall producion.
Enjoy!

When I wrote this it was just meant to be a soothing background piece. I'm glad it did that for you - Mark's additions really mellowed it out and made it into a nice atmospheric listen. Thanks for stopping by!
Roxylee
I love the peaceful piano , and Mark added the prefect touches to round it out. Lovely. :-)
kassia
Thank you, as always for your wonderful comments. Glad you enjoyed this one, too!

This was an "archive"... something she had "laying around"... Arrgh... If I could come up with something this beautiful I certainly wouldn't leave it laying around!!! (just kidding Shay).
When she sent this to me it wasn't clear she wanted a collab. Just take a listen but I found myself somehow so mesmerized by the song that I had to put some effort into it even if it would never see the light of day. I was almost afraid to send it to her. I mean it is her vision... who am I to mess it up?
The original piece, piano, cello, F horn is strong enough to stand completely alone. It's simply beautiful and it performed by a master.
All I did was to put a little work into the mix, clean up a few harsh notes and add a guitar just to fill things out some, and really the rest fell into place all on it's own. I mean Kassia is so good that this needed very little work.
It was an honor that Kassia felt it good enough to post. I will forever treasure this experience for it was a chance to work with a true master!
Thank you Kassia! Thank you! It's all you kid!

Thanks again for working on this with me and putting up with my demands. Don't forget those lessons in production you promised me! You're the sweetest, Mark. I enjoyed this and hope to do more with you in the future.

Seriously. I was gone for maybe 15 or 20 minutes. I come back from Blockbuster and she says, "What do you think of this? I just threw it together..."
One of my personal favorites. I love, love, love cello with Shay's music. Mark has added some great atmosphere and touches to this familiar and loved piece, making it a brand new thing to love in a whole new way.
MarkHolbrook
Shay possesses that kind of raw talent to lay down a new masterpiece on whim.
A while back she posted "Lazy Afternoon (Improv)". Her comment was: "Just hanging out, melting in the heat, noodling around on the piano..."
It's another of my favorites. To be able to noodle on the piano with such emotion... wow...
Kate I'm glad you like this new version of Springtide. It was a pleasure to work with!
kassia
Well, I think I probably had a sketchy idea put together by the time you got home, but it took awhile to get it all fleshed out. lol....thanks for all your support - the music is for you.

I h ad the pleasure of hearing this song just before it was sent to Mark, and already thought it was something very special. Mark's masterful additions bring it to it's full manifestation - a real synergy within this terrific new collab team. I look forward to more music from the two of you.
kassia
It's a drive-by magnatoning! where did you come from!?!
Reinholt56
The foundation piece is fantastic and the work that Mark has put into the piece has made it tremendous.
Brilliant.
I enjoyed every second of it.
Take care.

I *never* thought I'd find myself saying this about anything that you or Mark did... but I now must mention, in front of all the other MJers, that this doesn't really do much for me. It is soft and sweet. And I like the choice of instrumentation (though I would suggest separating the piano and guitar a little more, L/R, since they often overlap in pitch), the overall composition doesn't feel quite as compelling as some of your other pieces.
This is a completely SUBJECTIVE comment by me... especially since others enjoy this piece. The chord progressions seemed not to have much momentum, it felt very static to me. But then, I'm comparing this to some of your other things that were just sweeping and emotional, so its still quite good... just not "moving" to *me*.
I liked Mark's touches on this, it made it more than just a sketch, and filled it out more. But it feels like more needs to be done to make it compelling to me.
Today's critique is brought to you by the old comic strip "Frank and Earnest" :-)

As always, your opinion and feedback are invaluable, mr. dragon. As you know, I truly appreciate both your Earnestness and your Frankness. Thank you for listening and leaving some helpful suggestions. :-)

I think the dragon really liked it but was jealous it was not his! :)
He did have a bad week at work too!
Just poking a little fun at the dragon!

great piano playing with some amazing additions. Mark you did a great job letting kassia's piano shine. Nothing is overcrowded. Excellent.
MarkHolbrook
I tried hard to keep Kassia's beautiful piece in the forefront and tried to accent it in ways that seemed bring out the mode.
For me the cello which comes in around 2:33 is what makes the emotion come out.
Thanks so much for listening and giving your input!
