Lovers We Ain't Anymore by Mckenzie

Description:
A pretty bare to bones song that i recorded in one take (obviously without the rest of the instruments). By no means pitch or beat perfect, but i quite like it that way. I'll probably keep this in the archive somewhere and one day return with a polished, tight version.
Anywho, i hope you enjoy it anyway!

Billy Joel - not currently in fashion, but he couldn't half play and knocked out very many million sellers.
Well worth polishing, (and cutting a bit IMHO).

dood, i knew we'd hear something like this from you! absolutely beautiful and amazing! coldplay and keane vibe. stellar vocal performance. great mix and dynamics. sure, maybe one of the middle quiet parts could be shortened, but just for the radio version - leave this one on the lp.
have to listen again. your vocals are amazing! is it the accent? naw, it's just raw talent. good drums. like the sizzling, riveted ride cymbal. strings are perfect. good post.

This sounds good... Nice unplugged intro, and it's good when it's building up with the other instruments... Peaceful song....

and an emotive performance give this song a warm and sincere feeling. Nicely done. ;)
The vocal has an interesting live ambience. Out of curiosity, what kind of room did you record it in (dimensions and surfaces)?

Very well written. Nice tune and very heartfelt. Love the build up.

Definite Billy Joel feel once it gets going. Really good voice you have there. Lots of light and shade in the dynamics piano sounds good. There's something about the mix I don't feel comfortable with, but I'm having trouble putting my finger on it - maybe the vocal is a little loud - maybe the guitar a little soft.
A very good post.

really seems to gather quite a musical steam as this tune goes.
Ya, like the Billy Joel feel of this, though your own style.
Way To GO !

Certainly echos Billy J. but is still very fresh and original sounding to me.Very nice piece of songwriting and solid performances.Good stuff.

Fabulous. Great demo. Love the feel. Voice is kind of roomy, but I don't mind any of the pitch things, just you in the moment. Wonderful Billy Joel feel, yet your more youthful voice lends a certain Jeff Buckley feel. Big fans of both. If you redo it, keep the sense of intimacy. That is essential. Thanks for sharing this.

Your vocal delivery has me believing every emotion you expressed. I believe you felt it as you sang it and I believe that I felt it as I heard it. I love it when I can connect to a song like that.
The chording of the guitar and the steady strum of it seems to create a launching pad for your voice and your voice takes off nicely! WowWee!!
Like Jiguma, there's something about the mix I can't put my finger on....I'm listening thru the built in speakers of a 7 year old eMac and my volume is set at halfway.
There are spots where I found myself trying to turn up the volume and other spots where I turned it down a little. I probably need to break out the headphones for a good and proper listen....left them at work....
But the production sounds so open, clean and clear.
Great stuff! Glad I found it. Thanks for sharing!

hear the rawness in the vocal sound at first, but as the song progressed, the passion of the vocals and the nice lyrics had won me over. Great dynamics...loud soft loud...love it.
and you know, if you do re-do this...i hope you can recapture the sweet sadness this version holds.
great work

I enjoyed the song. Its a perfect Sunday morning song. I like the build up and don't have a problem the song length. Interesting that people connected it to Billy Joel, though I definitely can see a similarity to Jeff Buckley.
Thanks for sharing this one, its a keeper.

a big favorite of mine, owing to your exceptionally natural, laid back but emotionally invested singing style. WOW! Thanks for this. Love it.

I think this has more of an Cold Play edge than the other artist mentioned early.
You're only 18? You have so much experience in your voice.
Excellently sung, my friend.
Keep it up!
Never quit. You are GOOD.
