A start David, compared to the other material you've submitted to MJ, this isn't nearly as melodic (more like a chordal outline), romantic, or neo-classical. It strikes me as too Pop-based, and might not show off the expertise of a good pianist. Consider more Chopin/Liszt flourishes? Congrats on the commission. Best of luck. Right on I agree. Usually when I write for solo piano or small chamber the melodies are more clear. With orchestral you have to balance strong melodies with even stronger changes in color and timbre, so this is the initial 2 layers of what will become about 6 layers. Also, when the conversation between the piano and orchestra gets more clear, I will "pianize" the piano stuff much more, whereas the orchestral stuff will become more about the color and secondary melodies. So you're right on, and hopefully what I can write next will help with this more simple/rock sound. Check out my latest song called Homage to Bloch Remastered
