Lyrics
What can I say?
Life is good in the hood.
We ain’t rich
But we don’t got much trouble.
Well, ‘cept late at night
When mom and dad fight
But I guess that’s just
Acceptable.
And out in the street
Where the kids would meet
There were gangs
There were drugs
There were thugs and all
But everyday I’d avoid them
Again and again
Grab all my friends,
Go play some basketball.
What can I say?
Wasn’t no Beverly Hills
But I still got my fill,
On my own free will until
Daddy died
cuz he had fallen ill
And we tried and we tried
But we couldn’t pay the bill.
Momma said “it’s all right
Everything will be fine.”
But I knew she was lyin’
Heard her in the bathroom cryin.
With so many demands
Took it into my own hands
Got a job on the side:
Underpayed overtime.
I began to see the dark side of life
My sister got mugged
And my best friend knifed.
Lay in bed, eyes closed
At the end of the day
Hopin’ when I’d open them
It would all go away.
I’m a gangsta
Drug-ringleader
You don’t wanna mess with me
I got a soft side
but it’s one you won’t see
it’s hidden with my
Identity.
I’m a gangsta
Drug-ringleader
Gotta keep my life low key
and my family away from me
I love ‘em but it’s for their own
Safety.
So I sold my conscience
To the street
When I failed
To make ends meet
Took every penny
Every dime.
Makin’ money
Ain’t a crime
Before I knew,
I hit it real big
My friend and I
We pulled a gig.
I slipped out clean
But he was shot.
Killed by a cop
Was all he got.
Another guy
He was to blame:
He sold his loyalty away
Next day I killed him in his garage-
The price to pay
For sabotage.
And out in the street
Where the kids would meet
There were gangs
There were drugs
There were thugs and all
But they respected me
Like an O.G.
When I started
Bringin’ in the money.
From then on out
I was raising hell.
They followed me
And knew me well.
Things were goin’ great:
A turn of fate
And that was when
I met Michelle.
Sweet summer sweat
Best girl yet
A silhouette
With a cigarette
She was the kind of girl
That you never forget
A perfect body
A cool brunette.
Outside and in
From soul to skin
The one that makes you wonder
Baby where you been?
I was obsessed
But she’d contest
Said I had to quit the gang
It was for the best.
And I knew I could
I really should
But I couldn’t ever leave
My own kingdom for good.
So I knew what to do
Split into old and new
And it’s been that way
Since 1992.
I don’t believe in faith
I never had none
The rules?
Ha, I make em
By the butt of a gun
Can’t set things straight
it’s too late.
Too far in the game.
Got myself to blame
Livin’ under new name
Is the only way
Writing checks with the guilt off
Everyday
I got money and women:
Treasure and pleasure
But the way I got it
I shoulda known better.
My family’s off
With memory
Safe stowed away,
By lock and key.
I want to see them
But can’t be seen.
To be by them
But cannot be.
That’s how I got here
Now today
For power, sold
my love away.
And days don’t pass
I don’t regret
I try and try
But can’t forget.
But hold up
Who’s this kids who rolls up?
Got more nerve
Than I deserve.
He comes to me
About some ho
That recently
Sold out for blow.
It seems he doesn’t
quite recall
He asked that just
Two days ago.
I hold my tongue
Before I’ve sung
A background check
Says what’s been done.
I stroke my chin
“I know nothing”
So the story has begun.
Oh dear lord
what a tangled web
It seems we’ve gone and spun.
This grudge runs deep
I won’t pretend
Just a bullethole
Will make it end.
Or kerosene
We’ll wipe ‘em clean.
No evidence:
That’s the routine.
It’s outta hand
What happened last:
They fled by foot.
Survived the blast.
Fire can
destroy the past
But gunfire gets the job done fast.
But why play God?
Who lives and who dies?
To save what I’ve built
From hard work and lies?
This boy has amnesia
And benefit of doubt
And should only be killed
When he’s found it all out
I’ll follow him
With my third eye:
A private eye
And I will see
If he remembers
Anything
Then he will die
Summarily.
In every business
There are partners
I think this is what he’d prefer
Cuz I'm afraid if I don’t get him first
The others will just get him worse.
-So you got the ok from the boss you say?
-He’s alive. He survived. Let’s get on our way.
-Just so you know, let’s get things straight:
-when push comes to shove
You’re just dead weight
-But we got no leads, so if you please
- You might just be the help we need
- But wait now; here comes a call
- Maybe we don’t need you after all
- Yeah that’s right. Eve was her name. Yesterday you say? We’ll be there right away.
A friend works near
There’s nothing to fear.
But for you I’m afraid
Changes have been made.
I know how hard it must be to hear this
But we no longer require your service.
Why do you struggle?
Why do you fight?
Make my fist bid you good night?
Let’s leave now
Erase every trace
-Except for the mark of my ring to his face:
-The gang signature to remind him his place.
-A mock of the court
And it’s disgrace.
Oh Oh
How the rebel will fall
Down to the ground on his belly to crawl.
-But time is of essence
We must make haste
-To stay here longer would be a waste.
Life is good in the hood.
We ain’t rich
But we don’t got much trouble.
Well, ‘cept late at night
When mom and dad fight
But I guess that’s just

I think that is not New Age, but I really like the song. The vocals are perfect and the selection of instruments is flawless. It has a feel of oldskool witch I really like. I had not listened to something this good for a long while. Can you post the lyrics? The synth sound is killer
