The premise of the song is a little girl is locked in the basement of her abusive parents home to never see the light of day for the good part of her adolescence. She can never understand or even begin to comprehend that a better life awaits her outside the prison that has been made for her. For those who are parents this may seem like a cruel and disturbing scenario but these stories pop up from the well of of life almost every day.
