Description
Hey everyone! I finally finished my new piece I've been working on nonstop for a while and it turned out great. The song was previous known as "Journey Into Dream Land" and "The Twilight Symphony". It has more of a Kirby feel than Zelda to tell you the truth but it's still overly awesome and I couldn't be happier. It's symphonic metal- a very popular subgenre of metal and found in Europe a lot. I thought everyone would like something new and different so here it is: Journey Into Dream Land. Please tell me what you think and feel free to comment. You can download it also! Thanks! :D

Journey Into Dream Land

Thanks! :D
Thanks Feter for your kind words. It's a pleasure to hear that you enjoyed this piece. I wasn't sure if anyone would like it. I'm still working with the guitar balancing so I'll be sure to keep that advice for future works. I was afraid if I added a grungy sound to it you may not be able to hear some of the other instruments and I'd have to work with the sound balance more. Thanks again! :D

Huge.
Wow, Kori, this is amazing. The symphonic bits are beautifully done. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. By the way, who are Kirby and Zelda? Oh, one more question: can you recommend a band that plays this style? Thanks.
Kori Arashi said 3402 days ago (July 26th, 2008)
Thank You! :D
Thanks so much! I tried really hard on this piece trying something new and trying to add more to the music than I've done in previous songs. I would agree it ends a little short however it leaves some space for maybe a sequel perhaps? I wasn't sure how people would respond to this piece but since you and others enjoyed it I'll probably do another one of the same genre.
Kirby and Zelda are actually Nintendo video game series that share a similar symphonic sound to them that are very popular among many kids of all ages.
I'll send you an email here on bands of this genre which I think you'll enjoy greatly. Thanks again for your kind words! :D

Zelda
As an old Zelda freak I must say this should easily fit in to a cool scene with a boss :D Very nice work I DIG it.. Cheers

Fits With Game Soundtrack! :D
Thanks Skean! At least I'm not the only one here that plays games lol. I wasn't sure if it should be something with Kirby or Zelda but it gave me more of a Kirby feel to it with fighting in Super Smash Bros. or the first boss in Kirby. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks! :D

can
hear that there is a lot of work in your tune, great composition and unusual fusion with heavy drums and symphony, very good production!
Kori Arashi said 3401 days ago (July 26th, 2008)
New Fusion :)
Haha. Thanks Eckleiste! Yeah I noticed there were too many metal songs all sounding the same angry kind of thing. I thought there needed to be a variety so I decided to make this song. You never know what can work and what won't. I took a big risk here but it definitely paid off since many of you enjoyed it! The bigger the risk the bigger the gain, right? :)

Awright!
This is a solid track. Bit game soundtrack like.

I like the creative alternation of different moods and instruments. Though you run the danger of having too many different sections. Watch out for that.

Good Advice! :)
Thanks! Yeah it definitely has a game soundtrack feel to it. Took forever to figure everything out for it. I'll be more careful about having different sections in a song too. I was getting worried about that but it seemed it could work in this song. Haha. Maybe if it changes a lot it'll have to be in the progressive genre like Liquid Tension Experiment. Thanks once again for your very helpful advice :)

Big
Love the big sound. You stitch the very different sections together well. I would call this more art or progressive rock than heavy metal. Good tune.

Thanks
Bill

Subgenre Progressive? : )
Thanks! Yeah I'm not sure on the genre for it. It's very symphonic however it does change in mood and pace many times which I can see it being progressive. You're the third person to say it's progressive so maybe it's subgenre is? If you hear many bands of this genre they overlap here and there in other genres but they're still classified symphonic metal. I guess it doesn't matter. As long as people enjoy it, right? Thanks again though for your kind words! :D

Idea Out! : )
Thanks dude. Yeah I had this idea in my head for the longest time so I'm glad to finally get it out. Man it'd be awesome if you did a piece like this too. It's really fun to mix genres and see how they come out. Sometimes it comes out decent while other times not so much. I guess I lucked out this time :)

what a journey it is!
i can only imagine how long it must have taken you to get all the parts played and/or programmed. great mix too. man, those loud hits are LOUD! i particularly like the middle melodic break. followed by a swift metal ass kicking - of the manic, orchestral video game sort, of course. enjoyed, thanks for sharing!

Soft and Heavy : )
Thanks a bunch! You're too kind. I found out that many people like to hear both sides from something fast or aggressive to something slow or mellow. It seems to work out well and people get a taste for both sides. Yeah the ending is sort of Kirby like I think like in Super Smash Bros. or Dreamland. It took a while but I think it was worth it. Thanks again! :D

Hey, this is good. Not sure about heavy metal genre, but maybe "cinematic soundtrack". Lots of energy and interesting sounds.

Yes, really nice tune.

Too Many Genres!
Thanks. Haha. Yeah it's a mix of both. Just trying out some new things here and all. The symphonic metal is often misplaced as cinematic soundtrack but they both sound the same. It's a genre common in Europe kind of like how alternative is in the USA or pop is in Japan. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your piece was pretty awesome too :D

I'm not
entirely sure how I got to this page lol. I was cleaning my mouse and when I was done this page was up. I thought why not give it a listen. I'm glad I did, this is very cool and different. I would suggest the same thing Feter did. On my little Mac speakers I could barely hear the guitars. If they were a little more up in the mix it would lean a little more to the metal side of symphonic metal. I initially thought it was a mistake as far as genre lol. Thank you for opening my ears to something new.

Sound Balancing Issues : )
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure about the guitars- I know he recommended a grungy modern sound but I tried that and you couldn't really hear the symphonic elements. I wanted a deep sounding guitar. Seemed to work for mostly everyone so I'm not sure if it's a speaker problem you have. I'll look into it more though.

Yeah it's a hard song to classify at the moment. Some people classify it progressive metal which I didn't really think it was but it did change a lot like prog.I'll have to update the page for genres it looks like. Anyways thanks again for your kind words and I'll definitely look into the guitars :)
