Description:
Here's a tune I wrote for the quartet, Extremities. We played gigs around Washington, D.C. and recorded this in 1992--a long time ago. I play soprano saxophone. I like six-beat grooves, like this one, that can be divided into two threes and three twos.

This is fantastic. I like that groove, too. Sounds like fun. The music is upbeat and optimistic sounding, but it's serious, too, if you know what I mean. I call this "soaring" music. Top composition and playing.

Thanks, RA, for the kind words. I'm glad you liked the tune. Returning to this 15 years later, I thought the synth sounds seemed kind of dated, but was happy with the energy and soaring quality. The band was pop enough to get weekly bar gigs, but serious enough to lose each one after a few weeks.

Great to hear Extremities in MJ. Thanks for sharing this. Totally dig it. Was this a studio recording? Really nice.
bbarner
Thanks, Tobin. It was a studio recording.

great. I can see why you lost gigs- you were too good!(Do you guys know anything by Boyz II Men?)Excellent playing all around and great groove.

Well, none of us could sing. And I think people will always prefer vocal music. Cover tunes? We did Miles Davis, Sting, Joe Henderson's "Inner Urge" with a kind of hip-hop/go go beat.

The diversities of MJ still amaze me....

A melodic adventure. Backed up by some very cool rhythms. Great stuff!
Thanks

as I heard the underlying repetitive theme I couldn't help thinking of a hybrid of *Carol of The Bells* and *The 12 Days of Christmas*. LOL
Man... some really terrific horn work in here gives this thing WINGS!
OUTSTANDING!

top notch production, but you already know that. fantastic sax playing! nice composition. i, too, am a big fan of a good 6/8 groove. allows for those great tom fills. great performances all around. enjoyed!
ps. fretless bass playing blows my mind. he/she did a fabulous job too.
bbarner
Thanks. The bass player was Willard Morris. He played Chapman stick, too. But now-a-days he plays violin.

Excellent composition and great performances on all instruments. Much enjoyed.

Nice to hear pro stuff on macjams. I love the soproano sax. You could sit in for Leroi Moore in the Dave Matthews Band and blind people wouldn't know the difference. Thank you for saving the soprano sax from the clutches of Kenny G.

All round good, pro post. Can't wait to hear something current from you Bill. Top instrumentation.
