Description:
Mandika is a spoken word/jazz poetry artist on iCompositions. She allowed me to take one of her recorded poetry readings and manipulate it and add music. I used a small sample of some bass playing by another iComp artist who goes by the name of plexaura.
Lyrics:
A Haunting Re-visited by Mandika
Coming off like a cure
Dove covered fudge bar cure
Unapologetically cocoa
haunting my ethnic matter
that i had to know
existence beyond the
understatement of your voice
Images taking control of your mind
angles of your heated footsteps
providing glimpses inside your future
or the significance of your past
Could we be made to last?
in the haven of infinite nuances
should I pace myself quietly?
will it bring me adjacent to your heart beat
single out what moves a smile or whence from you
how wide the road of your patience
undaunted measure of family and friends
on whom can you depend?
Is you the man’s man or a woman’s end
Can I part your turbulent waters
with the pledge of much attention
I know you weren’t the house hand
Serving nobodies plantation
If a whisper between us blends
Texture of your deep cafe skin
Alchemy of your slumbered meetings
Do I deem deserving of your dreams
Wishing myself the means
If I could have forever
Are you here forever?
If not then…
it was worth the journey though your obscurity
because...
had to know how far I should go
why you haunt me so

A little outside my league and so this is just what I think-
I love the way it started, very dramatic and attention catching and full in sound. I liked the panning of the voice as well. The mix to me sounded fine, - nothing stood out as being too loud or too quiet everything fine. I suppose like a lot of people - rightly or wrongly I try to compare new music to old . This reminded me a bit of some of Frank Zappa's more obscure tracks like the - Dangerous Kitchen, and some of the tracks which Gail Zappa did with him.
A very enjoyable piece.
