Nicely done. Lovely melody and elegantly performed. The guitar sounds great, and the wonderful mood of the piece just takes you away. It kinda makes me feel like I should be floating on a river somewhere rather than sitting in front of a computer! Beautiful piece. A treat as always. Peace.
Ibstrat
much.I appreciate your comments.
Miller-Schletty
I am competely digging this guitar of yours. Soft, mellow chord changes hit home for me. Really nice work, Mark.
This makes me want to pull out my tenor sax and play. But that will have to wait, as I'm packing and going on vacation tomorrow AM.
Again, your playing is gorgeous. I mean it. And just so the critics know... this ain't no sunshine. Kudos!

Stan Getz... yeah what a tenor saxman. His style & sound is perfect for this song.

if you want to overdub a sax part go ahead!maybe when you get back from vacation. Thanks for the comments.

what a minute - I could have sworn that I listend to his AN commented, just a few hours ago! I still love it!
Ibstrat
are in the Twilight Zone!Actually I deleted the 1st one and reposted it because there was a weird volume drop in the intro. Thanks for commenting again!
Elevator_Funk
My favorite MJ's guitarist playing my favorite style of music. Thanks for posting. I loved it! Was that all in one take? I can't play for more than 30 seconds before messing up. Very nice....
Ibstrat
thanks a lot.Bossa Nova isn't exactly a popular style-glad that you liked it.I always record in one take 'cause I don't know what the $#@% I'm doing as far as recording!
peacepiano
This is clearer. Very enjoyable session. Some light percussion would work well here.
Thanks
Bill
Ibstrat
love to have some percussion- I don't have access to any.(Real or computerized) Thanks for the comment!

As usual a very smooth track. Very nice soloing.
If I may make one remark: a bossa is a dance. Like most jazz musicians you go for the smooth feel, gliding over the beats. But that doesn't get people on the dance floor: for that you need to have a solid beat, something that grabs your feet and makes them move. As a dancer I can tell you that there are few jazz musicians who appreciate that point.
So: great melodic track, a pleasure to listen to as always, I just wished you'd found a way to bring out the rhythm more.
Ibstrat
are probably right about the rhythm. I've studied the way that Brazilians play quite a bit.The main thing guitar-wise is that they think of it as 2/4 (Usually written in 4/4 in fake books). The right hand thumb keeps a steady beat on 1 and 2 while the syncopated chords and melody float over the top. It's actually fairly tricky to do, but kind of a subtle thing that sounds easy but isn't. The thing that kills me is I can no longer play nylon string (Because of hand pain). So I can't really dig into the strings.I'm using really light electric strings which buzz very easily.
You are a really astute listener- I'll keep your ideas in mind next time I record!
VicDiesel
I may be asking too much, wanting both your lyrical solos and a solid rhythm, at least out of one track. Maybe you can contemplate using two guitar tracks for a number like this?
Jim Bouchard
So I guess it is fixed. I love bossa rhythms, and though it isn't blatantly trumpeted in this song, it's there, and I get it. One of the things that I love about Getz's treatment of the bossa nova beat is the incredibly light touch, and I feel the little swaying pulse contained within this piece, and it baffles me how effortlessly you glide through it. Sigh...I can only wish I could get to this level!
Something about the low end sounds sort of muffled, but it could be my speakers or the fan I've got going in my studio tonight.
Ibstrat
for the comments. At some point maybe I'll get some real recording equipment and figure out how to use it!
sloparts
Has that Getz sound, but on the guitar instead of the sax. As always, your playing is flawless and sounds so good. I've always loved to listen to this kind of Jazz piece, and this is not an exception.
Nice job my friend, Kudos to you.
Ed
Ibstrat
I always appreciate your listening.

Your playing continues to amaze me - I find your recordings, despite having less noise, seem a little dull (from a production point of view) and while this might be the way this sort of music is normally recorded, I'm afraid it's just a little too mellow to me (again from a production point of view).
I could never imagine being able to play this well, and like a lot of MJers, it's on my "3 wishes" list if ever a genie comes my way: "to play guitar as good as Mark S".
Cheers,
Neil
Ibstrat
Neil.If you have any idea of anything i can do to make my recordings sound better, I'd appreciate it.(Maybe some type of inexpensive mastering software)I'm using a crappy old version of Ableton- I just record a straight thru take and use the normalize function to bring up the level.(Not much more sophisticated than recording into a cassette recorder!)Of course my other problem is that virtually everything I have recorded should have been done on acoustic. This weird hand pain shows no sign of going away so I'm stuck with super light strings on a worn out Strat copy.(Not to make excuses) Thanks for continuing to listen to my stuff!
would go well, but it is a nice work by itself.
still hear some clipping in the lows in a spot or two..... (unless it's my computer)
. - Harold
Ibstrat
have any percussion... there probably is some clipping. It sounded OK thru my super cheap speakers. Thanks for the comment.

You've a very light fine touch with this lovely delicate tune - a perfect accompaniment to watching the sun set over a calm sea on a warm August evening.

Ibstrat
much for commenting, glad you enjoyed it.
Moviz
music to listen to as one whiles away the time in the evening or on a sunny beach. So relaxing and a lovely melody, with a great warmth in the sound, Regards M
Ibstrat
Maurice.Always glad to hear from you.
AcetyleneJukebox
Lovely composition and beautiful chord voicings. well done.
Ibstrat
Just listened to your Bach- Outstanding, beautiful playing.

Apropos of Neil's comment and all that...I do seem to recall that you ended up with a version of Cubase or something.... That might be a good alternative to Ableton, coupled with the GearBox stuff... DO you have Cubasis or one of the 'light' recording packages? If you do, you could splurge at Barnes & Noble on a Cubase manual or something, and just mess around...
This is one of those tunes where I have to struggle mightily NOT to use the word 'mellow'... Still, among over- and poorly-used words, that's one that describes the tone you get from the Ibanez... I'm listening over headphones, and there's a very full, woody tone that sounds like a semi-hollow-body...
As always, your subtle sense of swing lends this a nice pulse without taking it over the line into 'too much'...it sounds like you, and not like a guy trying to clone Sixties Brazilian records... Although in the future, if you can find a female MacJammer to collaborate on an Astrud-clone vocal, that might sound awesome...
Needs some tapping, though...
Ed
Ibstrat
get too mellow, you might ripen and rot.Bossa nova is pretty mellow stuff- I haven't heard any Thrash/Bossa bands.(Major 7/9 chords tend to sound kind of bad played thru walls of Marshalls)I have this Wavelab Lite program which I use sometimes but still using mostly Ableton. When I have payed off my kid's college loans in 2025 maybe I'll try to upgrade.
HenriROGERsoloandbands
You've find some very nice voicings .
I like your sound .
It's great to record one take , we can feel we hear and see you play , live .
Ibstrat
recording skills are minimal- I always record straight thru takes.Always some mistakes left in...
Vic Holman
Beyond the great fretwork.. the music itself is very smooth and a nice warm laid back fell as well. very tropical. I agree, I think some percussion could give it some cha cha cha.
Ibstrat
tried recording a pencil scraping on a cheese grater but it didn't sound too good.
RazorsKiss
recording in? is it gb, or something else?
on this one, i found the guitars lacked a little clarity for me. maybe some highs and mid-highs? not much. your playing is stellar, and i only want whats best for you. love your music, my brother... as always. great great great playing. just a tiny bit of prodution polish on this one to make it shine as well as the skills involved..

i accidentally forgot to fave this. i know it can sometimes be seen as taboo to automatically fave an artist, but i know for a fact, when you post, it is worth listening, downloading and cherishing....
much respect,
AD
Ibstrat
for your great comments.I'm using an old version of abelton lite.I wish I had a Mac- GB is way easier to use and has a lot more features.I also have tiny speakers so it's hard for me to hear the full sound sometimes.I probably should use headphones more.I appreciate your continued support.
RazorsKiss
i respect you even more. i tried to record in ableton once, and about had a stroke. it was the most complicated thing i had ever seen...
i dont know how you do your final mixes, but when you do, try and add a little more high end for that top polish, and you should be ok...
E-Frame Wrecker
I love the Bossa Nova. At first I was struck by your choice of electric guitar to play this piece but reading through the comments I understand now. Very well performed, solid execution, very lyrical lead work, and some choice chord voicing thrown in as well. I think you could improve the tone without to much trouble.
Ibstrat
for the comment.Glad you enjoyed it.
lengold
delight to see a new post from you. A beautiful and polished performance.
Cheers

Lengold.Your continued support means a lot.

If only I could play this well, then I would start thinking about how to get your fantastic tone. What can I say ? Blown away.
Thanks and be well, Russ
Ibstrat
Really enjoyed your latest song.

...I used to hang out with Mr. Getz's son, David...we went to school together...got to hear some rehearsals...he was so great...
This is wonderful...great line separations...cool and breezy...
Ibstrat
you knew his son- very cool.I never saw Getz play live that must have been great!

i don't suppose you did this one to a click track, did you? i tried playing along to it on the drums, but kept getting lost. it's probably the bassy tone of the guitar and reverb.
that said, i don't necessarily agree with everyone's points about the tone being too dull. i think this is very much how a jazzy tone should sound. maybe shave off *some* low frequencies in the mix and a little less reverb. (but it sounds like a quality reverb.)
Ibstrat
did use a click track mm= 69,2/4 time. There are probably some weird (unintentional) accents that were throwing you off. Thanks for checking out my song.
composerclark
How'd I miss this? Sorry not to have caught it earlier, but I'm glad I heard it. Sounds great; it's incredibly laid-back! As Vic H. commented, this gives it a sense of being less rhythmically propelled than much boss nova music, but I don't hear it as a problem; it's just the way this particular piece works, and I like it.
That said, I'm hoping someone takes you up on your request for a percussion track, 'cause I think it could sound very cool if done well.
Nice job, as always!
Ibstrat
Clark. Also a guy named Gene Bertoncinni that I like a lot. No takers on th percussion yet..
ktb
to think of streams, continuity and peace. You're playing just wraps them all up. wonderfully fluid with the mellowist tone.
Ibstrat
for the great comment!
damiengh
Captured that feeling nicely. Hey, I could lend you my cabasa (afuche). Or if I have time, add a track of it.
You never seem to disappoint. Sure hope hand is on the mend, but from the looks of it, you don't give it much time to mend.
Oh well, we benefit, but at what cost? We need you around for a long time, so please comfort us with some confirmation, that your giving some attention to your hand treatment.
Again, your music is soothing and tasty.
TEXASFEEL
You captured the genre so well. Very relaxing.. I feel there.
Thanks for sharing.

this is soo great...
i am just in awe of your playing.
