Description:
I was originally going to submit this song to the coffeehouse jam thing, but one guitar led to another. Then I started adding back up singers and then even a bass, then a kick drum. Pretty soon there were just too many of us to fit inside the coffee house.
Adding the electronic kick-drums at the end proved to be problematic. I decided to post what i have. If I revisit this song it will be with a clean slate and I'll get the drums in there in the beginning!!

I agree, this one is a sleeper! Thanks for giving it a chance. =)

It reminds me of a guy playing his guitar on the beach. I like it.
- Jake
The lyrics aren't very original and the whole sound is very much like Jack Johnson, but I found myself enjoying it anyway and smiling... I can dig it. The multi-layered vocals and guitar solo were especailly nice.

Thanks for you feedback, and a comment about similarities with Jack Johnson. First of all he is one of my favorites. The song definitely has the Jack Johnson spirit, but I don't think he has done anything like this.
I started working on this technique back in 1981 when I lifted it from my friend who had been doing it for several years. Jack Johnson was 6 years old at the time - according to Wikipedia. A friend who is now a professional drummer recently emailed to see how I was doing now that my style of playing was popular. I was a little surprised that she made the connection. We played together back in '81.

You have a great voice, and it shines on this song. You did a good job on the mix, but what impressed me more was your arrangement. The strategic use of harmony parts is excellent.
I think you've got a winner here my friend.

I appreciate the comment on the arrangement. I put a lot of time into streamlining the song getting the arrangement to work. Its often not what you put into a song but what you leave out.

great vocals...great guitar...great groove.....love the bass.....this is very good song!

I know that others have compared you to Jack johnson but its uncanny! thanks for sharing!!!!!
E-Frame Wrecker
Oh, I don't mind the comparison. (Not sure if I came off wrong from the previous response.) Thanks for stopping by, listening and commenting.

Right away I thought of Jack Johnson. Really nice vibe. Glad you stopped by the other day or I might not have had a chance to hear it.
One of the best I've heard in months.
Bravo,

to this song, it really floats along and takes you with it. You have managed to capture a very warm and inviting sound. Great effortless sounding vocal. Can't think of anything to change in it.

Wonderfully breezy Jack Johnson feel. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The soft BD used works perfectly for me. The song is simple, the lyrics are on the over-used side of normal, but that's all part of the vibe, in my ears. Excellent track.

Thanks for the listen and succinct comments regarding the song. I don't expect it to knock anyone's socks off, just wanted to share it and see how it was received and perceived. Personally, the song grew on me as I listened to it, which was unexpected.

I love the mellow vibe and flow you got going here. EFW, you have a real sweet sound here. Tight, clear vocals and some tasty guitar. Kudos, and thanks for the heads up!

This one has a great feel to it. Great production. Love the lead vocal, love the harmonies. Guitar work is impressive. This would work as a simple acoustic, but I think I like it better with the full band. Thanks for sharing!

I was going to submit it to the Coffee house jam. I started out with just a tambourine and hand claps vox and a guitar. I haven't gotten to the point where I can add a full kit of drums. I have iDrum and its not exactly the best tool for this type of music, but works well for the grooves. I also have used drum loops. Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely need to figure out how to get a full kit sound in my future songs.
From what I have heard on MJ I don't think the sound of of the addictive drums fits my music. The kit is too resonant for my taste and it sounds like they are hitting the drums too hard for my style of music.

U know I'm a heart thinker... This song is so perfect as I am so in love with my chick we meeting each other here and she is every thing too me... Kudos my friend.
Take care You Rock

And best of luck with you MJ romance. Maybe they should add an "MJ personals" ... maybe not. =)

This is a really nice song. The guitar is great, a nice shuffling groove that just makes you lay back and move, and the arrangement is really solid. Terrific vocal, and excellent harmonies and backing vocals, too. I love the little riffage sprinkled throughout - very effective. For me, the hand-clap and tamborine style percussion is perfect for this song; it just suits the groove and the ambience perfectly. I get what some people are saying about the lyrics, but honestly, I think the lyrics work for the song. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

I appreciate the comments. Sounds like you picked up on everything I did.

Again, really smooth tune. I guess anyone who strums an acoustic and has mellow vox sounds like JJ but you stand alone. Nice.

I've played a few gigs in my days. =) I love having a studio on my laptop. It sure beats paying by the hour for studio time. I used to dream about having my own recording studio. I've got and its on my Mac!

fantastic recording. Deep groovy vocals and a wonderful, rich sexy sound bed. really dig the acoustic riffin. just excellent imho.

This is a very catchy pop tune.... good recording for the most part..... the bass seems a bit out here and there....maybe a slight intonation problem....to be honest a mild application of autotune or pitch correction will cure this and no one will be the wiser....
I would like to hear it with live drums...nothing flashy but something to add to the natural earthiness that this tune has....
I love the melody and the harmonies...and this is a solid vocal performance.... not to long not to short...good arrangement.....
really the bass and the drums is where I'd pay any extra attention..... hope this helps
thanks for the invite to listen
peace and future....Ian

Thanks for the feedback. I agree. The bass line was cobbled together from 2 passes by my bass player who hadn't bothered to listen to the song before he came by to do the bas line. The drums were added after the bass line (which made it difficult for the bassist) and just then I realized that the timing was off toward the end of the song. Unfortunately I had done all the harmonies guitars, etc... I tried to hide it as much as possible. I am going to have to go back and redo the whole song. I'll get some drums in there when I do it.

I am sitting out on my parents patio in Spain listening to this right now.

Thats sounds so cool! I am still getting my head around putting my music out here for mass consumption. I'm really not comfortable with the quality of what I have posted so far and I'd like to address that before I make it available for mass consumption. Thanks for the nice post!

a nice pop song you got here. does have a cali coast kind of feel to it (i'm from santa barbara). and yes, jack johnson-esque (i went to uni with him at ucsb, btw).

Caught his performance the other night at Outside Lands Festival in Golden Gate Park. He sounded great and I got to see a couple songs from 9 other groups I had never seen before. Nice event - I'll try nd get 2 days in if the city lets them do it again.
