Wow, souvenir from Cornwall as well. As with all your tracks this one is very interesting. I like the effects you put on the track, very good and heady. Good to see you back on the song making front.
lengold
I did think of giving you a shout whilst we were in Cornwall a few weeks ago, but the time just flew by.
Thanks for taking the time to listen - appreciated.

the 'i mustn't show emotion, i just don't do devotion' line is priceless! and the quiet 'haha'. i also like the scary reverse reverb in my right ear during the choruses/hellaluyah's. good to hear something new from the person who comments on so many of my tunes!
lengold
I am really pleased that you liked this. It is nice to be back in the saddle after so long. Thanks for listening and commenting - very appreciated.

All parts of this song are interesting and very well done .
The rythm , the chords , the effects , the sounds !
Your voice , on top is perfect .
Bravo!
lengold
so much Henri - it is such an honour for me to have a musician of your calibre commenting on my song.

I really liked this..I cant put my finger on it...But at times it seemed out of beat...was this planned ? But the fx and sound it way above good!!!
lengold
When I was trying to find drums for this song, nothing worked. Then I tried 6/8 time and it did. I was very surprised that I had written a song in 6/8 time - especially as I don't really understand what 6/8 time is. But anyway it seemed to fit.
Thanks for the listen.

Reminds me of Tom Waits with the original arrangements and the way you sing. The piano melody works very good and keeps the song together. The chorus almost sounds like its recorded backwards:) Cool!
lengold
to see a comment from you thoddi. Really pleased you liked it. I've never really listened to Tom Waits, I will have to have a delve into his music. Thanks.

is restored! Tom Waits - Yes I can see the similarity. I was thinking it was also the sort of song that Frank Zappa would have written, but your voice does take it more towards the Tom Waits area I have to agree. I love the suggestion of tension within the ryhthm on the intro..one of those that when it finally settles you say to yourself -Oh yeh -I see now. It's pretty instant too, by about the third play it got me. Great song, very unusual with an excellent performance. I also think your voice is just right for this -oh also must say - I shouldn't make comparisons really but we all do - your voice reminded me of Marc Knopfler as well. First time I've noticed this.
Nice one Len.
John.
lengold
John - I am so honoured to think that you listened to this three times. I must have a listen to Tom Waits. Marc Knopler is a new one, interesting and flattering. So pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for the lovely comments.

unique as usual. You live in a parallel musical universe and are able to create things that most people wouldn't think of.I really like your vocal on this and those distorted guitar riffs are classic!
lengold
Marc, you found me out - I'm really an Alien.
Thank you for your continued and very welcome support. I am embarrassed that you even heard my feeble attempts at guitar, compared to yours'.

Especially liked the quirky quality to choice of instruments. Truly original. Which is always a high compliment. Your voice sounds really nice, particularly at the second half of the song.

MAn this is some song. I like the chord structure and arrangement. Some wierd sounds in there. Like the lead short but sweetdone in all the right spots. Tops in my book! Excellent!

I really, really like this

It is great to see that you have a shiny new mac pro with all the trimmings (boy that 6gb must have cost an arm and another arm or two...
When i said pitched down Billy McKenzie above, I meant by at least 2 octaves
:-)
Great stuff Len
lengold
I now have four new bands/people to listen to, never heard of any of them. So pleased you liked it Bryn, I really value your opinion.
My old mac had 5.5 gb and so wanted the new one to be as good. It wasn't actually that expensive. It came with 2gb standard and I bought 4gb from Crucial.
Thanks again for the listen and comment.

Mr. Gold!!!
I can't place the type of beat... But it's cool. Kind of a rolling beat sort of. Great guitar work!
lengold
Very much
Mr. Holbrook!!!
No - I am a bit baffled by clever time signatures too! But I seem to have written a song in one. Really glad you liked it Mark and thanks for the support.

I don't why, something in your style reminds of Robert Wyatt. Maybe it's the beard on your pic, too.
I like the thundering drums. Nice moment when the guitar kicks in. Maybe it is integral to your style, but I felt the vocals were a bit loud for me, though it makes sense as the song builds up.
lengold
Yes, I wasn't sure myself about the vocal volume. With hindsight I should have reduced it in the softer parts. I find vocals the hardest to mix.
Thanks for the comment.

An unique style you employ here. The vocals are kind of Smash Mouth -ish. Cool beat, enhanced by the "souvenir" shaker. Al in all, a pretty funny song :)
Thanks

I will have to research Smash Mouth.

A surprise. The vocals, the mood and your playing. Very good song overall, production is getting top-notch (although the open hi-hat is a bit loud in the beginning and the end), nifty sounds and i love the way you played the guitar. But foremost, your voice, haleluja! A true Len treat. Love, Marc
lengold
you here Marc - thanks for the lovely comments and your unstinting support. I hope everything is going well for you both. looking forward to hearing something from you soon, I hope.

It seems it's been a while in coming, but worth waiting for. Love the sounds you've created with the backing and the mix sounds wonderful. The vocals are spot on with those great original sounding lyrics. Love that double track thing with the vocal too, Enjoyed this Len, regards M

Great to finally hear a new one from you Len and WHAT A SONG it is!! Cool in every sense of the word. The fx were so good in some places I got chills lol.
I have a new comparison to offer lol.... Your vocal has David Bowie lilt to it. I really enjoyed this piece and as always it is uniquely you Len, and very few artists anymore can make that claim.
lengold
I think it might just be because I'm English that you think i sound like Bowie, but I am very happy with the association. Used to be a big fan.
I am knocked out by your great comments, very nice of you, massive thank you.

Vic Holman
....with full steam. a pretty cool track.
I like how the bass does it own thing that has a kind of a hop and skip to it, if that makes sense. The piano has a nice melodic feel that carries through nicely. also like some of the additional elements that come in on the chorus.
Has all the earmarks for a trademark Lengold tune.
lengold
Thanks Vic, I was quite pleased with the bass, took me a few takes to get it how I wanted.
What a great word 'earmark' is - never thought about it before.
I always very appreciate your support Vic and am very happy to think that you liked this.

Until I got into the (6/8) groove, I was wondering if I should stop eating those mushrooms we had for dinner. This is definitely "out there", but in a good way.
This is going to take me a few more listens I'm sure. Your vocal is reminiscent of Iva Davies (Icehouse) on some of the songs from "Berlin". The melodic bass riff is really different - holding things together and defying the kick to stay even close.
Possibly one of the more original tracks I've heard here for a while Len.
Good stuff!
Neil
lengold
One of the things I love about posting a song is hearing of all the artists I remind people of - virtually none of which I've ever heard of. I will look up Iva Davies and have a listen.
Praise for the bass from you is praise indeed. So pleased you liked it Neil and thanks for taking the time to listen. Very much appreciated.

I really enjoyed this one. Others have commented on the unusual rhythm and I think that's one of the interesting things about the song. Great production - those drums and keys sound fantastic. Also a lovely guitar tone. I really like the lyrics, too; some real gems in there! A terrific track. Nicely done. Peace.
8piscean8
Great lyrics. This is very original. Love the 6/8 time signature and the tempo you have chosen. Great job! Your voice reminded me of Serj Tankian in spots. Check out his solo album Elect the Dead.

.. yet another golden nugget (gettit? ;o)) .. not much too add: very weird, wonderful, rich and impressively unique to me sounding .. only gripe was some bits seemed a bit too 'in my face' in the arragement when I felt a softer, more subdued feel (perhaps with less going on?), might work.
Well done Len - have a safe, enjoyeable trip.
Komrade K
Very striking melody and arrangement - and that lolloping rhythm is wonderful. Your voice is sounding much stronger as well.
Nice one!

Listened to your new song today.I think it is good and quite interesting and interesting lyrics.I couldn't get the music part though abit,I think the piano needs to work on rythmwise(melody and piano don't sound syncronized to me) but other than that is good.(it is my opinian....)
Hope you and Zamira are doing great and hope to see you soon.
Love,Becca

...your songs that I've heard. Pulse of the rhythm track is so solid that it just digs right into ya! Very consistent throughout. From a recording standpoint, the whole piece is pretty "right in your face..." Maybe if you'd give just a little distance so the listener wasn't so close to every instrument...I'd suggest that one thing to make this an easier listen. Vocals are, well, harsh (not a bad thing at all), but fairly often a little under pitch.) It was nice to hear something new this afternoon.
Peace.

you stopped by my site and left some really cool comments so i started working my way through your catalog...i love the textures on this one...strange but accessible. Reminds me alot of Nick Cave but it's not derivitive, it's all yours. Cool lyrics too. Love the last verse.
