Description:
Had to dust this one off a bit and finally post. Seems like it's been awhile since we got to post a new TENSE track. Mainly due to the fact I created quite a lengthy chunk of space for a chikoppi guitar solo, heh! Comments and criticisms are always welcome. I think after this we'll begin mastering tracks in Logic... but I'm still waiting on that delivery.

Lyrics:
Life slips down the sharp end of a knife

There’s no discerning what is wrong from right.

You hope your jury might exonerate

It serves your verdict on a filthy plate

Replace your spirit with another one,

Whose only purpose is a place to run

Serve out your sentence, wash out all the noise

Your testimony is a lonely voice

Pull them in further, hide them from the the truth

Life cuts you deeper, drains itself from you

Your body holds your prison cell,

Guilty of murdering yourself.

Hardware:
Shure m58, ART Tube MP, M-Audio Keystation 49e, Line 6 Spider AMP, PackOSmokes-Ibanez RG-470L, Chikoppi-Ibanez RG-220B

Software:
GarageBand 1.1

rising &mdash 10/28/04 - 03:02:18 AM
you guys seem to have moved up a level or two with this
one-everything just sounds 'right'. not sure what you did
differently, but the vocals & instruments are mixed
perfectly. there's no fighting to hear one thing over the
other-it all just meshes well

on top of that the song just rocks! there's not really a
whole lot going on, but there's a whole LOT of sound!
simple & pure. if i had a criticism (& i'm really digging
here), it would be for the vox to come online one last time
near the end.. one last mix of chiko's rockin git with
packo's voice to polish things off

well done, guys. lookin forward to your move to logic

Flat-out... &mdash 10/28/04 - 07:02:39 AM
intense! Feelin' it right down to my toes. Thanks. Good to
see songs that freakin' rock can get good scores on MJ.
Gives me hope that you don't have to submit only show
tunes or jazz to get props. (In the words of Seinfeld)"Not
that there's anything wrong with that." But I guess a great
song is great no matter how you slice it. Excellent!

Great sound &mdash 10/28/04 - 09:18:18 AM
If this is the sound you get out of Garageband, you should
be making some serious noise with Logic. The vocals are
placed nicely, although I did want the guitar solo towards
the end to be a touch more up front, good and loud. Also
like that ending synth and voice combination. Good track!

Great production &mdash 10/28/04 - 10:14:03 AM
Really love the edgy guitar hits, the intensity, the sound of
your voice, the perfect effects, the dramatic percussion
groove. The break in the middle is a nice relief, a place to
rebuild from; quirky and makes you listen again. The
sliding "ah" vocals and ending cut off work really well.
The lyrics are something I can't relate to, however, altho
they go with the violence of the sound; the clipped
delivery and punched rhythms are very effective. I like
your voice so much, I would've liked more vocal layers;
variations to the starkness. I agree that the guitar solos
and vocal chorus stuff could've been louder at the end,
but it also settles in well and reminds me of the kind of
mix GTR would use. The production is excellent. Very
strong track.

Mind melting musical asault... &mdash 10/28/04 - 11:19:22 AM
This is INtense as you guys keep the level of your performance maxed to the limit start to finish. Great guitar chops and lead. Again, great performance and production.

Whew, I need to relax now.

OHHH &mdash 10/29/04 - 02:17:11 AM
Clean and crisp sound.. what the heck did you do? heheh!
This was perfectly mixed, great job. The guitar stuff rocks,
I heart Tensabees! I can't wait for Logic, you're gonna piss
off some neighbors with the songs that come outta that!
=)

Why is everyone.... &mdash 10/29/04 - 12:44:02 PM
so surprised that you used GB. Just because it's simple
doesn't mean crafty, talented people can't do AMAZING
pieces with it. It just takes some know-how.

Great tune, packo. Nice heavy tone. This song would
have also worked really well mixed as hard rock like Alice
in Chains... I'm gonna guess they're an influence.

MJ needs more great heavy music like this.

Yeesh! &mdash 10/29/04 - 06:37:49 PM
What a knock out progression.

The guitar feels a little thin for my taste, too trebbly, like
the bottom end is clipped off.

Really unpredictable and exciting guitar solo.

At mid point you layer in some choral synths and a bass
change up. xcellent. The song needs that a verse earlier.
Then go even fatter after the solo.

Fantastic vocals. Really really great.

Yeah, this totally rawks.

Yeesh! &mdash 10/30/04 - 05:06:29 PM
Funny, you mention the guitar. This song pre-dates Chikoppi and my
experiments to get a "fuller" guitar sound, which I do believe we've finally
accomplished. Look for that treatment on the next one.

Glad you finally posted this &mdash 10/30/04 - 02:50:27 AM
I heard the unfinished version on your site when I was
downloading the LCB file. Sorry for poking around, but I
really liked it then and I still do.

Keep up the good work.

I am still working on LCB by the way, I haven't forgotten
about it.

Hypnotic chaos. &mdash 10/31/04 - 09:08:02 PM
What is this noise? It disturbs my soul. It urges my rage. It
torments my spirit! This is subversive. 7-9-8-8, damn it.

depressing &mdash 11/01/04 - 11:15:05 AM
I work in a prison (oops, a college)... why do I want to hear people sing about it? Sigh. And why do you make depressing sound so full of insight and energy and direction? (Because you guys are very good at making this sort of music, I suppose.)

i like the production &mdash 11/03/04 - 11:20:20 AM
I just find the lyrics a bit obvious, though if they weren't
printed there while I listened, I might have not payed so
much attention. Regardless of that, well-done, strong
construction!

F*@#$ Yeah! &mdash 11/03/04 - 10:05:03 PM

Thanks for the inspiration to kill. JK Awesome job you
guys.

Nice Team Work &mdash 11/04/04 - 06:40:54 AM
Packo, your vocals are perfect on this song and I assume you were doing the rhythm guitar work which I also thought fit well. Chikoppi, I think you and I differ a little on guitar tone, but your work here is also great. Your tone here works well for you in the context of this song and I like how you work at trying to come up with different lines. Again I know both of you try hard at making your mixes tight and it shows.

This is awsome &mdash 11/18/04 - 04:11:02 AM
I was feeling like you guys were a bit scattered before but
this piece is great. It has a very put to gether sound, if
that makes any sense (I can never find the words I'm
looking for when I'm writing thses things) . The mastering
makes me feel like the song is coming from down in a
hole, in may just be my $20 speakers though. Personally I
would have bumped the vocals up and dropped the guitar
a bit, but that's how I like things to sound. This song has
such great energy, I love it.

driving intensity &mdash 12/14/04 - 03:16:23 PM
You keep the energy ramped up throughout this kickin
tune. Sorry it took me so long to hear it! Thanx for the
heads-up.

I'm always amazed that I can listen to this kind of music
and actually LIKE it -- not my usual genre -- but this one
is so well produced and performed that I *HAVE* to enjoy
it.

I'm also amazed that there can be this kind of intensity
and yet not be totally overloaded or distorted. This is a
clean, very professional recording.

Good song &mdash 12/15/04 - 02:24:00 AM
Reminds a little of that long lost band "Stabbing
Westward". It's a good mix, however, I think the
snare drum could have used a little more PUNCH!
SMACK! that kind of thing. Otherwise, the production
is excellent. Well done packosmokes (smoke those
daily, shame innit?).

I can't find any reason to lower the score.. its all so
awesome... sounds so pro. I've got your artist page here
bookmarked so I can see updates ASAP.

Keep it up man!
