lo-fi indie electronica (god how i hate that word) (1), space is a very lonely place or so i'm told (1)
Description:
I was messing around with some synths, and just started improvising this one. It's pretty much a chill out tune. I've probably been listening to too much Boards of Canada. I had fun with this though, playing around with effects, MIDI and synth sounds. i ended the feedback at the end abruptly on purpose, but now i'm not sure. should I have just let it ring off into space?

Major Tom Where are you? I Have a great time as well just playing with sounds and the few effects I have at hand. Unfortunately nothing good ever comes out of it. This on the other hand is tranquil if you let it, or if you listen it is thought provoking. Great job, ejnoyed it very much.
Be well, Russ

when i am having a hard time writing new songs, i always do re-mixes, collaborations and start experimenting and improvising. luckily there is tons of interesting freeware plug ins to play with. thanks so much for listening.

what's with the pic? is this a song about being alone on the subway? :)
like the beat and the sound of the synths. very nice and surroundy. yes, surroundy... it's a word now.
michael2
thanks for listening. i chose the pic because it is from the subway where i grew up and i just happened to run across it. seemed to convey loneliness, so i used it. i like the word "surroundey." wish that was a genre here at MJ. thanks so much for the listen.

my brother listening to "Music has the right to Children" all day long and trying to convince me how BOC was good.He never suceeded...
But I liked your tune very much and thank God It doesnīt make me think about Boards of Canada at all.
It doesnīt sound lo-fi at all to me...It reminds me of the movie "Lost in Translation"... A day ending and the Sun Setting.
Itīs also cool that you credited the song to someone else...
Itīs great, I really enjoyed it.

it's funny, for as long as I've known you we have had really similar taste in music. i actually like BOC, although i wouldn't say they are the best band ever. it's okay though, you're still a great guy. i'm really glad you like the song, and i too was thinking of this as a soundtrack piece. thanks for stopping by.

Is it possible to listen to too much BoC?
Great track.

we are floating in space. Nice album close, so melodic you could write and sing lyrics to it.
What synths app did you use,now taht you don't have crystal ? Alpha ?

Like when artist experiment. Nice, laid back, but also a bit haunting. Very 2008.
Really appreciated this one Michael.

Very nice space and music created here. Good to read that you love experimenting with free vsti's. Same here, my folder is full of free (and not so free) vsti's. Really good to hear this track, I keep expecting the radiohead singer to come in. Lovely track and good sounds.

Starts strong and fades very slowly to the end. I would vote for ringing off into space to keep the listener from slipping out of the trance. I like the sound and despite the strong beat at the beginning I might call it ambient because of the overall effect.
Thanks

I like the beats, and the chords are excellent - moody and oddly uplifting. Good sounds, and a nice arrangement. As for the ending, I like it. I'm a big fan of Boards of Canada. My idea of chilling out is a playlist combining Boards of Canada, Susumu Yokota, Cliff Martinez, and some of Future Sounds of London more ambient stuff. This would fit right in with that group, and in fact probably will, which is a good thing. Nicely done. Peace.

.. this pulled off very well. In the back of my imaginary head I can almost hear a sparse Gary Nueman vocal arrangement going into this.

I like how you slowly unfold the immense beauty of this track. And I like the disturbing lofi-track here. Excellent work!!!

I mean the lowfi percussion ...

i like this very much - especially when that progression comes in. any plans for vocals?
egobandit
Some loops real slow give a totally different feel. the mixture of synth and piano set the beat in new directions with each chord movement. Enjoyed!

One can never listen to too much BOC.I am a big fan of their music. I think you have done some nice work here. Well done.

This is exactly my cup of tea, and not at all surprising to hear, coming from you.
I think the picture of the subway is perfect. I don't live in the city anymore, but when I did I used to take the train to work every day; always with my discman (remember when there were no ipods?) and this would have been perfect for those cold winter mornings, standing on the platform....
Very nice song Michael.
