Description:
This is another remix of a song I had posted in the past and last I checked it's not there now. Someone was complaining about being in a rut and this is my response. I re-did the lead vocal and changed some other things in the mix but it's pretty similar to what I'd done before. So I guess I proved my point.
Once again I post this as alternative rock because acoustic rock is too wimpy sounding.

Lyrics:
Comfortable RutThere always is a warning sign
When it’s time to find a new groove
It’s hard to know the how or why
But you will make your move
You don’t need a neon sign
Telling you it’s time to go
Just forget what’s gone by
And what little you have to show for it
Find yourself, you can find yourself
All the same it’s hard to deny
You’re in a comfortable rut
All signs point towards repetition
The pattern is confirmed but
If what it is is what it is
And it is feeling quite alright
Then all you can do is go with the flow
And sleep on it thru the night
Find yourself, you can find yourself

But something is wrong the mix make it hard for my ears as they are very sensitive don't take me wrong I love the song but I think the low bass is little too much for me... Maybe it's just me and my ears... Hey! Neil where are you.
Take care

really like this one, although there is something going on with the bass end of things. it kind of sounds like the rhodes and the bass are only coming through one speaker and maybe fighting each other. it's really distorting on my end. everything else is so nice though, all of your parts are really nicely done, especially the drums. great track, i really love that rhythm, is that the banjo?
Jim Bouchard
It probably is the piano. I'll have to check the panning. I'm using a Logic Pro vintage e.piano instrument preset, and I probably need to dial something back. I wanted to have the piano sort of carry it, but there's obviously something in there that's getting in the way. The bass I used was my old Epiphone P-bass clone which can be a little muddy sounding. I didn't notice anything too horrible when I was mixing it though. The other instruments are acoustic guitar and mandolin, with the main instrument being mandolin. I wrote this mostly on the mandolin. No banjo on this one. The drums are the EZ Drummer Cocktail drum set. I've always liked Cocktail drums, and was so psyched when my copy of EZ Drummer came with that expansion kit.

I wont say what "rut" means in french :-)
This is a very good song .
Lot of work on the arrangement , with nice sounds and mix .
This chord going up on "yourSELF" is bringing a lot to the mood .
Mandolin and vocals are my favs parts , also the rhodes right hand .
Thank you .

how is it that this seems to be something that rings a bell with my life?
You could expand on this and get some vox backups on the "find yourself" line.
This is really complex in its simplicity. Love it. Great tune.

...I could get comfy in that little rut for a while...sit outside and pick out a tune or two...
Great post, Jim...love the mandolin...cool songwriting with very effective chord changes. The mood's perfect for the subject....drift away.
I understand what the others are saying about the bass...but, to my ear, it's effective in that it helps to create that sleepy/hypnotic "rut" feel. And the mandolin puts in that percussive "...hey...maybe I should get outta this" voice.
If it's going to be "changed", I, personally, would make it very minimal. I think it "works".
Sweet piece, man...thanks for the download.

This is kind of a quirky song, but brilliant, as Feter says. It carves out an amazingly-original and beautiful sound for itself; I really like it. Very dreamy, spacey qualities, and thoughtful lyrics. Really good job here!

.......remind me of? Everything comes together on this one. At first I had a few doubts, but this is quite creative. Kind of like a lost Harry Nilsson song.
I enjoyed this very much.
Thank you,
Dave

You need whistling on this at the break and at the end. It would be just perfect.

I really love the melody, how it drifts in and out of this sort of whimsical happy tune and some slightly darker skewed place. Your singing style really lend itself perfectly to it, It's catchy but still makes you stumble after it like chasing a butterfly.
The arrangement sounds great to me, rounding out a rich sound and it's mixed just right for my ears.
Really a cool tune with lyrics I can relate to. Nothing stands out to me that I'd change.

Love the laid back feel of this the bass is what I love most about this. Cool loosely sung lyrics are like a nice cherry on top of a vanilla float sorry I was getting some trippy imagery from this. It just gets better as the song rolls along. Sounds like some old flaming lips. Did you do the drums yourself? Downloaded thanks!

This is very appealing tune... easy to get into. I like the melody line, something different than I normally hear here :)
Your mandolin and stuff sound good, as does your singing.

I like this a lot. The bass thing that people are referring to is probably Rhodes related - I like the deep bass, although certain notes seem to have more gain than others. My Fender Precision is tricky in that the lower strings are louder than the top two - just a matter of adjustment for me, but it sounds the same here. Is the bass panned left? If so, I'd be centreing it. Generally I really like the mix and the song itself. What are those clicks at the end? - sounds like multiple splices or something.
I don't think the bottom end really interferes with the song too much on 'phones - maybe a little more clarity on the bass would help, but I don't see the need for too much change really.
Top song!
Cheers,
Neil
