my interpretation of a pop song I would have heard when I was a kid (1)
Description:
Here is a 2 minute pop song that I wrote. I did all of the drums in MIDI instead of using DOD. I think they turned out okay, really wanted them to sound live. There are plenty of synths and backup vox (cause they are so much fun to record). I don't know what this sounds like. it's about how I wish i could feel more innocent.
Lyrics:
some people got it rightsome people got a funny way of growing old
it's like my father said before
a euphemism is just another way of playing coy
i'm foolish
but trying
i laugh at myself
i'm dreaming
while the world is scheming
and i laugh at myself
my babies got it right
she laughs and smiles at everyone
she sees on the street
like my father said to
just do your best
you'll probably live to see another day
i'm foolish
but trying
i laugh at myself
i'm dreaming
while the world is scheming
and i laugh at myself
don't freak out
you'll get there
and all your games
they only fool yourself

Beatlesqueness. Inspiring.

glad you like this one. thanks for listening.

genius. 60s pop revisited. bg vox sound very nice and I like the 'live' drums. I like to tap them out once in a while too when I have time, but they never sound this good. the synths are a real nice, subtle touch and everything sits really well in the mix. Top post!

i have only recently been trying to program drums for rock/pop songs. you're right, it's pretty time consuming, but there is a lot of fun to be had tweaking out on them. thanks for listening.
That's it !
Peace Dee.

any song that contains a major scale run (at 1:39) is A-OK by me!
you sure caught that sense of innocence
thanks

Can't believe those are MIDI drums. It's depressing, really. Inspiring, also. I want to go home and see if I can improve my drums. But the song crafting here is top notch. I've got no criticisms, just accolades this time.

And could easily have been found on one of those "odd" Beatles albums (White?!). Enjoyed this with a happy smile on my face...
Thanks,

uplifting without being cynical.
And the instrumentation is very sweet, liked that flute very much.
There is no way for me to compress my musical ideas in so little time and only for this I would admire this song.
Congratulations, my good friend.

Of course. It's an interesting nasally way you've got to singing that isn't quite Dylan at all as the harmonies always smooth things out. The drums really do sound live and the mix is just about perfect. The kick is especially nice. I sort of wish there was a little electric guitar to give this a little more oomph. Maybe an instrumental bridge with a solo in it? I guess the bridge is the ending "verse:, which is something I like to do myself. It starts out with the piano sounding like an old Cat Stephens song, and the flute touches are pretty nice. All sort of comfortable references here to make it nice and familiar and yet not. There's some sort of odd crackles in the ending with the "oo" but maybe that's intentional.

... to a amalgamation of quite a few of the late 60's pop bands.
cool to see you try out the midi drum approach. I found they take up less sonic space. I think they turned out really good here. Mix is really good as well. The choir of backing vocals is ideal and turned out great. You always have a great knack on how to harmonize the vocals.
excellent!

This is another one of your great songs.
All aspects of the tune, arrangement, sound and singing fit together so well.
Take care.

are bound to be excellent. The thing that strikes me about this one is the super clean production. Droney but not dirty. Another hit from the hit factory.

Wonderful track, love the artwork, too. The song has a special enchanting vibe, it's outstanding! Lovely, bravo!!

when I hear your music. I like the way the organs sound on this, it has an street organ/roundabout feel which I find really great.

Your vox is top-notch on this. Does have that 60's feel. On the other hand, you remind me of Kurt Cobain on this believe it or not.
You know I would love this.
My wife was listening to you yesterday. She wanted to check out other artist and she thought you were really good. (I recommended you as a good example of MJ)
Very nicely done. Loved it.

couple of people said something, it was an experiment with processing. i like it, but maybe it sticks out too much since i didn't have that much sonic weirdness in the song. originally there was a lot of noisey stuff in this song, but i ended up taking it all out (feedback, waves of distortion, white noise,...). so glad you dug the song.
midi drums are hard though, taking me awhile to get it down. i got lucky this time. just threw out another track I spent hours on yesterday. thanks for listening.

addition to my Itunes. Very sweet little ditty..... and the drums sound live. I really dig this song.

This is just what I needed to hear!
Thanks for such a catchy, pop-inspired song.
Grat use of backup vox and synth.
The message is what I really needed most!
(I live in Hollywood, where everyone takes themselves REALLY seriously, and sometimes it rubs off on me.)
