Description:
a 'classic Mystified' composition (os9)

I recently went on a hike and found myself in a glorious grove of new aspen trees. As I later wrote:

...what is it about an aspen grove? I took this photo in the Uinta forest, on a trail that wound between slender, stately aspens such as these and brooding, earthy firs and evergreens.

There is something magical about each, but in a different way. 'Quaking aspens' do just that, and at the slightest breeze they seem to whisper secrets amongst themselves, while the light plays against the twirling leaves.

These trees here seemed as a curtain off of the trail--a wall of graceful guardians that drew your gaze in and then up to the sky above. And while it's difficult to describe in words the exact feeling of standing in such a grove, if you've never had the chance to walk among the aspens and experience the certain serenity, I highly recommend it...

Since some have asked:
My 'classic' mystified track usually consists of a basic improvisation--in this case, the Jam Pack Steinway Piano. I then added an improvised Orchestral Harp over the piano and then an improvised Orchestra Legato Bass over that. Even though I improvise, I usually have to fix/tweak notes in the track editor (bad notes, adjusting velocities, note lengths, etc.)
Then, after I have an instrumental track I'm satisfied with, I go and improvise 2-3 tracks of vocals, one after the other, then go back and refine levels, eq, effects such as reverb/delay.
Voila! A 'classic' Mystified composition :)

Just had to lay claim. Very nice. Will listen again in the morning. I love Aspens, camped next to a grove in the Kings Canyon Wilderness and listened to their rustle all night long.

This is gorgeous Mysti - and it's so great to hear something from you! A few years ago I stayed at a place in Oregon that was filled with quaking aspens. With the windows open, you could hear them throughout the night making that amazing sound as the breeze touched them. This song of yours reminds me of that - thanks!

This is gorgeous. I love the song notes you wrote to accompany this song. Fabulous job weaving those ethereal vocals in and out of the piano - exactly like the gentle breeze through the trees.

I love the light vocals scattered about.

The piano has a halting effect the way it is played which really draws interest.

I was recently told, &mdash 08/14/08 - 10:24:32 PM
that all the Aspen in a particular area are identical on a genetic level because they are in fact one very large plant.

Maybe that would explain why they seem to be whispering to each other in the breeze.

Beautiful piece of music Cat that is soft and lovely, and very well played. Your recording sounded flawless to my ears as well. Thanks for posting this one Cat.

very pretty song you have made. I think it's impressive the steps you took when making the song. All of that is like a different language to me. Isn't it wonderful to be inspired by nature??? I think you've matched it perfectly with the imagery and picture displayed above.

So talented!
