The Game

Description
This song was written on a day that I called out of work. It was a momentary assertion of what I knew to be true but hid from. The concerns and the desires and the modern world are the product of an egoistic world gone mad. Simply speaking, they are an illusion. Of course we all need food, clothing, and shelter, but we are too busy being defined my meaningless and pointless corporate drudgery.

I guess what I'm getting at is this: there are no do-overs in life and you only get one chance on the ride, so if what you're doing seems like it's a waste of your time, then it is. It doesn't matter what society tells you or whatever- success is NOT measured by your ability to purchase consumer goods.

This tune remained my personal millstone for about a year- eventually it became unbearable and I realized I should have told them to go to hell WAY before. The game ends the same every time: we die. But the question I have is this: do we have to live it by their rules? The answer is only if we choose to.

Anyway, this is older but recently remixed. All critiques and feedback are very cool. Don't be shy.

Lyrics
I am the fly upon the wall.
I am the pride before the fall.
I saw the man commit the crime.
I feel like I am doing time.
Just the same,
I know it's just a game.
just a game-
they're all the same.

What is the purpose of this lie?
To live their dreams and then we die.
I always thought there would be more,
they can't win if I don't keep score.
They try to make you live in shame
if you refuse to play their game.

We're guilty by association.
Living life in desperation.
There's no reason, no rhyme
all things must crumble at their time.
I wish I could save you from what I've seen
through bloodshot eyes
and broken dreams.

It's all illusion,
a grand delusion
designed to put you in the grave
but you can save yourself
by refusing to play their game.

I was the fly upon the wall.
I was the pride before the fall.
I saw the man commit the crime.
I busted out before my time.
I beat the game because I refused to play
their ****ed up game.

It always ends the same.

Radio Rebelde is basically just me. I record and perform under the name Long Way Down. I'm pretty much a well intentioned guy who just wants to make noise that either makes you happy to hear it or writes tunes for people to be like all right, it's ... [see more]
