Song Description

This song is for the MJ Covers Challenge.

I decided to do a cover of michael2's original version of Everyone Relies on Time.

This song is also a collaboration. Many thanks to SmokeyVW for singing the backup vocals and helping with the choir. I had so much fun helping him on the MJ Coffee House Challenge song Meanwhile The Replicators I'm glad he could return the favor.

I changed the key, changed it to 5/4 (I adore 5/4), emphasized the "to heal" idea, and changed the repetitions a bit. I also reused some elements from michael2's original song, changed the bridge a little, and closed up by referring to "i passed your house ... again" to stress the obsession and dissociation in the lyrics.

And a big nod to michael2 and Bud for reviewing my early versions.

Lyrics:
Everyone Relies on Time
by michael2

half a mile from here
i saw your car
half a mile from here
i passed your house

again

it's too early to tell
if i've gone queer
it's too late to say
that i feel weird

today
it's always today

everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time

to heal

how can i be sure
that we're both here
how can you be sure
that now's the time

it's too early to tell
if i've gone queer
it's too late to say
that i feel weird

today
it's always today

everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time

to heal

everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time

i passed your house
again

Yes, yes &mdash 09/01/08 - 08:10:24 AM
Very nice. Really good sounds in there, and the whole thing flows like it's just a segment of an infinite, ever-playing, universal song. That last "I passed your house...." is terrifying.

this is fantastic Mary Jane &mdash 09/01/08 - 02:07:15 PM
even better than I remembered. I'm going to have to spend some time with this one and really figure out how you did this drastic change. The song was always meant to have the heart of a torch song, but my version buried that in psych noise, you really brought out that dark sense of ambiguous confusion and loss. thanks so much.

Great vocals job .
The harmonies and mood remind me a bit of Radiohead , one of my favs bands of these last years .

You really pulled this together nicely &mdash 09/03/08 - 09:37:24 AM
The 5/4 time is great and the vocals are wonderful. Smart choice getting help from Smokey - he's a champ. Glad I could help a little in the early stages and thrilled that you asked me. Fantastic tune.

Very brooding. The 5/4 gives it a bit of an unbalanced feeling. As if there won't be enough time in eternity for you to heal. Creepy in a good way.
