Well...
...I originally set this tune up as a "challenge" to guess the story line behind it...and I truly appreciate the feedback...(Guy had a very nice story line)...
However: I've decided that the "challenge" might be taking away from the simple enjoyment of listening to the piece. Sooooo:
"El Jinete Solitario" (The Solitary Horseman) is the short story of a Mexican cowboy, traveling on his horse in the light of a full moon. He carries an arrangement of flowers with him as his horse steadily navigates the desert trail.
Looking up to the moon, his thoughts go back to "the incident", hours before, when he brought the beautiful bouquet to his love; the daughter of a rich landowner. With great pain and humiliation, he remembers the landowner, standing at the door with two very large men at his side, scornfully ordering him to leave the town or suffer "the consequences"...
As the memory recedes, he sees a campfire ahead. Looking sadly at the flowers, he drops them on the now cool, but still dry earth, and allows his four legged friend to lead him to the invitation of warmth and a much needed midnight supper...

Sounds very quixotic; can't imagine what it's about though... ;-)
Well it's a treat to hear you play your classical or spanish guitar; nice job here! Do you have more pieces in mind for this series? I think it would be cool to make a suite out of it.
guitapick
...yes...that would be very nice. I have another tune, similar to it, which I've considered as a piece of the puzzle...
Thanks, Clark. Hope all's well with you...

Don Quixote, as played by Charlie Chaplin. Well, David, you asked. heeheehee Your playing is exquisite, by the way. :-)

What comes into my mind after looking at the picture and listening to the music, is and old Clint Eastwood movie, "Pale Rider". I have no idea if that's even close, but it's where you took me with the clues.
excellent playing my friend, Kudos on the music and the sound quality. The mix is pristine and crystal clear.
Very Nice Indeed.
Be well and be cool,
Ed

...my two favorite westerns of all time are "Pale Rider" and "Unforgiven". Both with and involving Mr. Eastwood...
Thanks for the listen, Ed...muy mucho...

Wonderful song btw... I see a lone rider moving slowly after a long hot days ride. He catches sight of a camp, and is mindful as to whether they might be friend or foe. As he approaches, he is apprehensive, but curious at the same time. Ultimately, he continues on his way, with a twinge of sadness. Choosing solitude over companionship, as he has done most all of his life. In his mind, the safest choice.
Beautiful piece and a stellar performance.
Peace
Guy

...you're good...
...it's not right on it...but a wonderful line and close enough for jazz, as they say...sweet storyline....
Thanks...
Ibstrat
this is a great piece and great playing.I'm not sure about the story line- it's in a minor key so... maybe an old man dies or is close to death. You have a terrific sense of harmony and melody.Beautiful!
guitapick
Thanks, Mark...always looking forward to your next...
egobandit
Rather not figure out the story but what I can say is this was played beautifully . You and ibstrat should get together. The only bummer is there is no download, no worries I can always listen here thanks!
guitapick
...is an excellent guitarist and musician. One 'o deez daze...
Thanks for the listen, hombre...
Bowman
and your playing as usual is soulful.
As for the story, I'm working on the screenplay. Should have it done in couple of years. Hope you can wait.
guitapick
...a very, very patient man...
jiguma
I would never have come close to that story I'm afraid :)
You get very nice tones out of the Fernandez - the Rode NT3 is such a great mic for recording guitar, and you've done both the guitar and the mix justice in this excellent tune.

The comments I got just underscored how varied our interpretations of art can be. I'm going to start making up story lines when I play out:
"I wrote this while riding an elephant down Broadway and 42nd Street in downtown Manhattan..."
Rebsie
Beautifully played, and the ending is immaculate.
guitapick
...I spent quite a bit of time deciding on how to play the ending. Very happy you mentioned that, Rebsie...
chipan
Beautiful playing as always and great story. That's a nice picture too. It makes me want to see the movie version of this story. Excellent composition and production!

...in southern Arizona for 5 or 6 years. The desert is a beautiful, powerful landscape. The nights were amazing...
I know exactly how I'd like the animation to look for this piece. Hopefully it'll git done, someday...
Thanks, Chip

this is so pretty and just perfect for a soundtrack. this would be the main theme and I imagine that there would be maybe 4 versions of it: this one, a symphonic version, a short harmonica version and one that would have sort of a New Orleans funeral brass band sort of sound. great playing, recording and melody lines. i'm jealous.
guitapick
It does really sound nice on harmonica, Michael. I've thought of extending the tune, alternating strummed guitar/harmonica and this solo picking.
And I really like your idea of using the theme throughout a soundtrack...
Tanks, man...
HenriROGERsoloandbands
Wonderfull playing and harmonies .

Merci beaucoup, maestro

Delicate and delicious.
So pleasing and so teasing, felt like it was part of a bigger work, for I wanted more....more...more.
Beautifully rendered scene given to us in your intro and in your presentation.

Thanks, Damien...
Dragonas
listening to this song!
Lovely playing on that Classical guitar.
Sounds amazing!
guitapick
...it reminds me, very much, of the desert...a truly magical place...
VicDiesel
The sadness and melancholy of your story comes through, but I sense a note of hope somewhere too.
A very charming little waltz. Great stuff.
guitapick
...warmth and a midnight supper...life goes on...you know the desert...sweet picture in the artwork; yes...?
Thanks, Vic...

...you know...I never really asked: is that a wild fox that you're feeding there...?
saymme
it's a wild fox we were homoured with her visiting us a few days in a row , it's wayout on the countryside, woods & mountains 20years ago there was no road to this cottage ! It' to us The Best Place in the World - sacred : )
spitlogic
Great playing. The picture for the song fits the mood of this music perfectly.
guitapick
...just keyed into your "alien rap"...way cool...

the story was a terrific read as well.
A real highlight to hear this, there is just really something to a nice warm feeling fingerpicking, classical guitar solo!
Lots of nice melody, kind a has a fiddler on the roof feel as well. But really does blend in very nicely with the description you gave. Again, I think a really terrific story you put in the descriptions!!
It adds a lot to the music, too bad not enough music doesn't have this type of intro into music.
WAy To GO
guitapick
...by some that, when I play out, I explain the tunes too much. That I should let the listeners create their own images.
But almost all of my tunes have a story to them...and I like to relate them.
Thanks, Bill...happy you enjoyed this.
dajama
Fantastic sounds and lovely playing as always. The guitar tone is sweet. You never disappoint. The melody is lovely, suffused with melancholy and, I think, acceptance. A terrific piece. Nicely done. Peace.
guitapick
The ending of the piece, where it has a slow ritard, is where the horse stops, the man looks at and lets the flowers drop to the ground. Acceptance. Then he moves on, towards the camp ahead.
moorlandt
and such a great sound. I'm singing along.
guitapick
The ultimate musical compliment. Thanks, man...
Bob, you are good! This is very nicely played. Great tone and fantastic touch on those strings. Kudos and a deep bow from a fan.

bob - you are just SO GOOD!
TEXASFEEL
I like the way the chords are plucked then cut off and then how it flows into a melodic break... Simply put, very enjoyable.
Bob6stringer
I'm gonna change my name to Bob2stringer after hearing what you do with 6. Very nice work/play. Can't embellish the storyline tonight, but I do think the music is beautiful.
Enrique Gil
That is what it means in Spanish....
I love this beautiful melody.
It reminds me of my Spanish roots.
Masterfully played too.
A true classic.
I am impressed!
guitapick
I asked a friend of mine who's fluent in Spanish how to say "The Solitary Horseman". He gave me "El Jinete Solitario".
Doth the man jest?
That would be a drag.
But I'm glad you liked the tune, Enrique. That means quite a bit to me. Thanks.

a guitar is the only friend to talk to. the guitar always answers so sweetly. guitapick and the guitar understand each other very well. they are good friends. it is music of compassion. it touches the heart. such skillful playing. 0x0

This is so beautiful... and I love that you've provided a story here. Pacing is so very fitting - almost reluctant. Gorgeous.
