Action Man (racerat cover)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I was watching The Incredibles with my daughter about the time this challenge started and it reminded me of one of Racerat's songs a while back. You just can't go wrong with Mr. Incredible so I figured this would be the song. The tones were a bit challenging for my vocals but I got it done somehow.

Thanks to Phil for letting me cover his song. I didn't change much really, just added a short riff and pumped the guitars a little. Definitely a fun experiment.

Lyrics
Action Man
Philip VanDusen ©2007
aka: racerat

Action Man
Imprisoned on the shelf
Righteous altered ego
Mirror image of myself

I try to do the right thing
Fly as fast as lightning
Get out and do my duty
In my puny kind of way

Action Man
Flying like a hero
I’m your biggest fan
But you know I’m just a zero

I am no comparison
To your model of perfection
Bubble-moulded and inspected
Pride of my collection

If I could fly, I’d rise above
And rescue all the ones I love
My plastic man is who I’d turn to
Everyone needs a hero

Action Man
Impervious to pain
In my dreams, I dream that I
Am wrapped in cellophane.

Incredible
Nick,

I was honored when you asked to cover "Action Man", and holey-frijoles did you ever cover that puppy! Covered it up in gut-busting guitars and bruising beats. Great job with the vocals, too. The reverb gives it a very convincing rock-hall feel. Good work, man! Awesome.

nice photo
Yeah I love that photo. It just seemed like a good idea. Thanks for the opportunity to cover one of your songs. I was originally going to go a different direction with it and ended up with this version. I couldn't quite match your kickin' solo though.

Hey maybe Phil is just the secret identity to Mr. Incredible.

Thanks DA. Phil's version rocked - I'm just trying to do justice to it.

best movie
Yeah definitely one of my favorites. I can watch it over and over with my kids. I just had to add some samples too. Thanks for the nod on the vox, I had recorded the vocals earlier but they didn't sound good so I changed the style and redid them all the day before I posted.
Thanks for checking it out.

You've taken this to another level Nick
I listened to the original and while that version is good, this one is great. There's a lot more energy here, more drive behind the whole song.

You did great on the vocals my friend so no worries. Great mix except I feel the Lead in the break could have come up to get it more in your face. I mean that's what the whole song is about is "Action" man.

Great track, Kudos for doing it sooo well.

another level
More energy is what I was going for (or is it more noise? :)

I hear you about the solo needing some more punch. Looking back on it I would like to make the solo twice as long and really drive! Maybe I'll do another version just for the heck of it.

Thanks for coming by and commenting Ed,

and then some.

Great version of an already good song.

Fantastic work on the guitars and the intro and outro were clever.

Cheers

This rocks
Thanks Dick. Phil started me off with a great baseline. From these it was all icing on the cake. His version had this great Stone Temple Pilots guitar sound. I tend to make everything a bit heavier.

That was TOTALLY WICKED!
To quote the kid on the trike at the end of the movie. I love that movie and I love your version of this very rockin' racerat tune.

WICKED!
Thanks Bob. This was a blast to put together. My second choice for a song was one of your older songs "The Pill". Maybe I should do it anyway.

NIce one
This rocks, and then rocks some more. Great drums, and the guitars are terrific - lovely sound. I think your vocal sounds good - a nice rockin' attitude, and a cool performance. I'll have to go and check out the original. Very nicely done. Peace.

Gotta love those drums on demand. The vocals came easy on the second take. Your cover of Micheals song sounded great also.
