Description:
My submission for the M2 err MJ cover challenge..... A garage like cover of Michael2s' "Pretty Girlfriend"... I would have liked to have done one of his beatlesque tunes but I was too lazy, to figure out the chords , so I opted for a two minute three chord joint. Only changed one word.

Great Vocals &mdash 09/02/08 - 07:52:48 AM
Listen to you play that rock guitar!

Excellent vocals and overall production. Your harmonies are great and your rock vocals at the end were a real surprise!

This is a really good cover of a really good song.

I was going for a kind of Social Distortion thing, As for the guitar I was just trying to imitate all the cool cats around here with their harmonizing leads. The end is kind of embarrassing but I left it in anyway..... :) Regards

I also &mdash 09/02/08 - 07:01:08 PM
did a cover of "makes you wonder" though it turned out even worse than this if you can imagine that.

This is a very cool Cover &mdash 09/02/08 - 07:49:29 PM
Nice track Matt. Your vocal is spot on and I like the way you put together the backing tracks. the ending very cool as well. Nice clean mix and good production makes this a winner.

Thanks for doing the cover, well worth the effort and a great listen,

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Maybe we sound alike because we grew up in a similar place and time, or perhaps I'm just aping his style..... The tune was a good choice for me because it only has three chords...;)
btw your M2 cover is totally awesome. Regards

first off: where did you find that picture? second: I really love your take on this. my favorite part is how you got the lyrics wrong on the chorus. what really makes me happy about that is, Io the girl who sang backups on the original got them wrong too. Not really sure what she sang, but I sang "broken toy on a shelf." which means you were more true to the spirit of the song than you think. or maybe you're singing the right words, but your inflection is so rocking I can't make it out. either way, i love it. the ending is a really cool idea as well. nice drum work.

i have another version of this that A&M records made me do when i used to have a deal with them. my band had broken up and they kept me on as a solo guy. unfortunately, they made me use session musicians and it's so lame I will never play it for anyone. awesome job on this, thanks for the tip of the hat.

Well &mdash 09/06/08 - 07:04:42 PM
I kind of changed one word intentionally, I was hoping you wouldn't mind too much. I mentioned in a comment to your original post of this song that I felt more like a tool than a toy......Found the groovy pic on the sybil myspace page....too bad none of your records hit huge, but perhaps in a way that was actually good fortune. Regards
