Keywords:
hamlet machines (5)shoegaze (10)one wing broken one wing bent (1)
Description:
We recorded this some time ago in 2007, but for some reasons, it stayed in the bottom drawer, because I felt it lacked something. But, in the end, and after a remix, I like it that way, though (or because) it's the typical Hamlet machines song, noisy, sloppy, dirty and rough.

I have also posted the song 'sleep therapy' as a "hidden track" but you'll find it on my page. This may be the last songs the Hamlet Machines will post in a long time.

Lyrics:
She was a little heartbreaker
You thought you were a risk taker
She was a bit of a cutter
something of a wristcutter

This girl has no bracelets or rings
she's got no golden earrings
No she's got none of these things
but she's got wings
got grey wings

And if she is no angel
she's a bit like tinkerbell
she is too small a being
to feel more than one feeling

This girl has no bracelets or rings
she's got no golden earrings
No she's got none of these things
but she's got wings
got grey wings

You thought you were free and wild
while you were heartless as a child
You nailed her down with a steel pin
ran your fingers under her skin

This girl has no bracelets or rings
she's got no golden earrings
No she's got none of these things
but she's got wings
got grey wings

and it would be a shame
if you had broken them

One Wing Broken One Wing Bent &mdash 09/03/08 - 05:34:57 AM
I don't remember this being as dirty and dark in the original. Sounds to me like you splashed some hyperboreal on it. That fog horn bass blast has a powerful and frightening effect. I like the falling apart of the instruments at the ending as it warns of the reality of the last verse of lyrics.

Tinkered bells &mdash 09/03/08 - 06:51:05 AM
This I think is better balanced than the original. Once again, like sleep therapy, the aiff file wasn't so dirty (and was darker): that's what happens when you play with the limits.

alright &mdash 09/03/08 - 03:35:01 PM
very cool. quite a sad song. i like the contrasts in this and the guitar noise is as usual completely over-the-top awesome.

Lyrics are poignant and dark, and the vocal delivery is spot on. Like hte gritty guitar, and the insistent rhythm. Good sound, and a great mix. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

the pretty melody of the chorus juxtaposes well with the scary noise.
Your singing is cool and interesting.
Great post.

chorus and noise &mdash 09/04/08 - 03:48:34 AM
At some point in the 90s there was a genre called noisy-pop. I think we took it literally!

Fine stuff &mdash 09/04/08 - 04:30:53 AM
I like the combination of the gritty guitar with the 'hooty' sounds under it. Sorry, I know that isn't a word but I don't know how else to describe it.

Nice melody, good vocal performance ... enjoyed a lot.

another classic &mdash 09/05/08 - 05:56:24 PM
you guys should be legends around the world. i'm really liking that low guitar bent chord, it rubs you wrong in just the right way. really like the drums too and your whoo whoo vocal hook. you guys are great.

sloppy &mdash 09/08/08 - 03:31:08 PM
ah but good there is something grippin about the bottom that rips through the song. its like your on one plane of listening then you get ripped into an opening in space and time. sorry I got carried away! greatness again!

This is great!
Loved the lyrics.I knew a lot of people like that one you describe, like too small to feel more than on feeling (what a fantastic line).

[ Reply to This ]
that line &mdash 09/26/08 - 09:13:35 AM
comes, not word for word but close enough, from "Peter Pan".
Thanks for dropping by and put up with our roughness.
