Description:
This is a song about the death of one of my musical influences, Hank Williams - a great songwriter!

Lyrics:
Shoeshine Boy

Some folk’s say
It happened on the way
From Knoxville to Oak Hill
On a cold New Year’s Day
He climbed into the back
Of a baby-blue Cadillac
That old shoeshine boy
Ain’t ever coming back
They named him Hiram
But they called him Hank

Was it hard to find
A little peace of mind
A bottle of dreams ain’t all it seems
When they’re leaving you behind
Did you follow a star
And find out who you are
A crooked man from Alabam’
Hellbent on his guitar
Southern raised
You were gonna go far

And I know the radio was playing low
The last drop of bourbon was sweet
I hope you heard a lonesome whistle blow
Before you fell asleep

You can make a name
The music hall of fame
Cowboy boots and Nudie suits
And rhinestones in the rain
You can cry all night
In the love songs that you write
A cheating heart still breaks apart
But it looks like you just might
Become a drifter
Who never saw the light

I know the radio was playing low…

And I know the radio was playing low
The last drop of bourbon was neat
I hope you heard a lonesome whippoorwill
Before you fell asleep

Hank &mdash 09/04/08 - 04:43:56 AM
Hank was one of the all-time greats, no question; for me, the embodiment of C & W music. This is a wonderful tribute to him. As with your other submissions, totally professional production. I love your harmony singer's voice. Great song.

thanks &mdash 09/04/08 - 05:04:06 AM
thankyou for such generous comments. There are 2 harmony singers on most of my songs, they are Jane Fairnie (my wife) and Karen Dietz who is a great singer/songwriter in her own right. I'm so glad that you've enjoyed these new songs, I recorded them back in March and have been working towards releasing the new album later this year, but I've been persuaded to start releasing them a track at a time for download so they're up for sale on my website. Guess you have to move with the times! I do always appreciate the feeback I get from fellow MacJammers so thanks again

Great to hear a new one, Tom. I love the chorus(refrain). There are certain lines you use that cut to the core of the emotion you paint with your songs, and maybe it's the way you sing, but I love the line" that last drop of bourbon was sweet". A great tribute to the man that made the standard.
Cheers,

Joe

Hi Florry

I haven't ventured across to Ireland as yet but you never know! The CD isn't anywhere near ready yet but I've been releasing tracks for download on my website www.tomfairnie.com. There are 5 new songs there plus a few past albums available. Thanks for your comments by the way, it's always great to receive feedback!
All good things to you - Tom

This is a very nice piece, like the background as well. Has a great folk flow indeed. Nice singing.

Hum. Chunkiness of those guitars their on fire.
And what really I can't stop listening for is The Dobro. He just rattling on. The vocals well perfect.
