Description:
This is the stoned-out, mantra anthem that Bob Dorsey (Five Extra Legs) has always expected from me.
This one's been simmering on the back burner for quite a while. And I figured, why not post it?
It has my little "wall of sound" style on it. Millions of tiny sounds. Some, you can't even hear, but feel.
So, CRANK IT.
And enjoy.
Dave
P.S. It should be under the "Psychedelic" genre, but I guess I'm more known on the "Alternative Rock" genre. I don't know if that matters much in this case.

Lyrics:
Rising Up Through the SkyReaching out, I am getting a notion
Thought I'd write you a little poem
Tell you exactly what I'm knowing
Half the time I don't know what I m saying
Can't cool off and stop complaining
Part of me has been rather boring
Watching out I can't hear the warning
Leave me here in this situation
Can't get home to my destination
I'm just like a lonely mountain
Rising up through the sky
Reaching out, I am getting a notion
Diving deep in this tranquil ocean
On the bottom I can't see the top
Around the corner and then I stop
Running on I am complicated
I think I'm loved, although I am hated
Wanna' rest my head on my pillow
Dream in peace, just me and my arrow
Just me and my arrow
I'm just like a lonely mountain
Rising up through the sky
Thought I'd write you a little poem
Tell you exactly what I am knowing
Half the time I don't know what I'm saying
Can't cool off and stop complaining

This sound like "The Rolling Stones" and that is good in my book.
Very cool post.. cheers
lavalamp
Here we go again with the Stones thing.
But, I love it.
Thanks,
Dave
The Infinites
Your voice is so well suited to the music. Great lyrics. Very Stone Roses and that's not a bad thing in my book.
Love the line, 'I think I'm loved, although I am hated'...
Great breakdown at the 2.00' mark - but I wish the song was at least twice the length, I enjoy it so much!
Nice one David - I'm sure Bobby D will have much to say too.
DL'd & straight to iPod.
Jim
lavalamp
Like 'em longer, eh?
I never know. Should have just doubled it or written a break. Yeah, I know.
But, I'm glad you liked it and hope you'll enjoy it even more.
Dave
The Infinites
Put it on repeat X2.
Job done!

This does have a a wall of sound feel to it. Very well done on the melody.
I like the fade and change at the end of the song. Great playing and writing.
lavalamp
Thanks for stopping by and hitting this "wall".

does have a classic 60's Psychedelic sound. anywhere from the beach boys, beatles, nillson & soft machine all rolled into one. i think it's when the line me and my arrow comes in that i think nillson.
all sounds good and energetic. enough so, for me to get out and mow the yard
cool one Dave
lavalamp
There may be some gravel in the yard.
I was waiting for someone to spot the "Me and my arrow" line.
Just a little tribute to Harry.
Thanks Vic,
Dave

I immediately thought Stones - sorry if it bugs you, but it has that great legacy 60's sound.
Enjoyed it much.

I love the Stones, but I don't think I'm much influenced by Mick. I think Mick is one of the best in rock history, so any comparison to someone like him flatters me.
Glad you liked it, too.

I like this a lot. The sound is terrific; it just washes over you and carries you away. I get the Stone Roses vibe somebody mentioned - I think it's the drums and that kind of beat. Great lyrics as ever, and excellent singng on this. Let me add my voice to the 'make it longer' chorus! But seriously, I'm just being greedy. I want more! Very cool song, nice sound, and sweet performance. Nicely done. Peace.
lavalamp
I'm just glad that someone would want to hear more of my stuff in the first place.
I would like to thank you for all your support. It always makes it worth it when I see your comments.

WOW ...this is so Hot Rockin ..man ..loved the
beat and grungie guitars those behind you ...
the singing just powerfull ...loved this 70s
anthem ...ROCK ON !!!!!!
lavalamp
Always glad to see you around. A special thanks for your comments. You are such a valued member here.

sound is REALLY nice! Plus, your lyrics and vocal delivery have a meaty, upright quality that the ever-whining, spoiled-adolescent Stone Roses never have. (In fact, the only Stone Roses I hear in this is in the tambourine/drum track.)There's some genuine vigor here, and I appreciate that very much in a psychedelic song.
lavalamp
Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I really do appreciate it.
Glad you liked it.

Makes me feel like a swinger with a gold tooth. Dont know why some weird imagery starts to happen. You ever listen to me and my arrow by Adrian Belew sounds nothing like this but it is a song about his arrow. Very cool thanks!
lavalamp
Loved your new one. Thanks for stopping by. Never heard the version you wrote about. I'll have to find it.
Dave

I get what you mean about the genre thing. It's as if an alternative rock band put down an psychedlic tune on their record. I LOVE when the guitars drop out about 40 seconds from the end and you're left with bass and drums) and probably some of those extra little fun things you can only see with your third eye.
lavalamp
Right. It is like a Alt Rock band doing a Psychedelic tune. That's a good analogy.
Thanks for commenting, too. Nice of you.

I'm no mathematician, but it all adds up nicely to me!

was the part of the song when It all clicked for me; when you sang:
"I'm just like a lonely mountain
Rising up through the sky"
Good 1!
lavalamp
Thank you very much.
Dave
Great stuff Dave! I've always dug your slightly Jagger-esque vocalisings and you're in top form here. I love the chorus/hook!
Classic sounding psychedelic guitars and clean production. Perhaps one of your best my friend. I only wish it was longer!
Be well!
lavalamp
Be weel, but not long, my friend.
Dave

great song dave! lots of energy with an in-your-face kinda feel I like. sure I hear a little rolling stone roses in this but it's all armbruster to me. wouldve liked to hear a different ending instead of a long fade but that's all subjective anyway. great job.
rsorensen
oh - and awesome lyrics
lavalamp
Sorry I'm late replying.
So, thanks a bunch for listening and commenting, Ridd.

I love that flangered bass in the end, but it made wish the whole shebang started again after it.
The Infinites
Longer? My thoughts too.
Dave - get the rest of it done ASAP; we are peeing ourselves waiting.....
How many MJers have been asked to increase their track length? Not many.
Big compliment from the guys. GIVE US MORE!!!!!
(heh, heh!)
Jim
lavalamp
Sorry CJ. That's all the tape I could afford.
Thanks,
Dave
lavalamp
Tape is expensive.
Thanks, CJ,

Enjoyed it. You're the best. Thanks.

Late again Dave! This is so british sounding, and has a really good overall sound - that scoop bass sound works in the outro. You hardly ever hear that used.
Cool post Dave.

this is so cool - and it's been too long since I've had time to make music - not that I could get t this place - but I'd sure try. Great song. I can feel the FEA influence.
lavalamp
Nice to see you around. No 5EA here.
Glad you like this.
Don't be a stranger.

reading your description I was about to talk about how psychedelic this sounds. Nice wall of sound retro recording. That bass tone us wicked.
lavalamp
Thanks a lot for stopping by Boss.

i'm late, but stoked i made the party. this is such a cool song. you always have this weird stones meets early Pink Floyd thing that I totally dig. like the lyrics a lot on this one. that chorus is a really cool change in the song and the break down is a perfect way out of the song. great work bro.
lavalamp
Syd Barrett communicates with me telepathically, ya know?
Thanks M2.
