Description
I think the state of mind that I was in when I penned the lyrics to this are summed up by the last verse:
you need to understand the rules my friend,
here one man must meet his end.
one comes out though two went in;
it's the dead man who really wins.
This is easily interpreted to mean that death is better than life. That's not what I'm trying to get at- for anyone who is familiar with a gamma ray burst and what it would do if it were to blast a planet, it's pretty terrifying. What I'm trying to illustrate is the fact that once we accept that we are mortal and stop being foolish and obsessing over the future and other illusions, we can be truly present. Everything that is happening is happening now, so enjoy it!
of course I'm always busted up over something, usually a girl, so I'm the first one who needs to heed my own advice! Ironically enough, I found out later that the cliffs of Dover line would actually be significant, but when I wrote it, it wasn't intentional. Chances are that makes no sense, but it amounts in my mind to another strange synchronicity pointing to particular person, but stuff like that fascinates me. There was no deliberate pun when I wrote it though. Anyway, hope you dig it. Sorry about the hiss- I'm using a Shure SM57 vocal mic that I'm pretty sure would hate me if it could and I would reciprocate if it weren't irrational in the extreme! All feedback is awesome. Hope you dig it!

Lyrics
when you reach the cliffs of Dover
and scatter her ashes, it's finally over
and just like that, she was gone.
the skies grew dark and bleak and grey
but you'll meet again some sunny day
and the rain is falling down all around you.
they cut him down as he ran
his blood had spilled out on the sand
and ultimately, we're all in prison
said the coroner to the man
but doc you just don't understand
that woman on the slab, it ain't her.
sometimes it can be reassuring
believing one day we'll all meet again
but that's when they pull the rug out from under you.
there's a note on apartment 41
but the ink has run and the words are gone
and that rain keeps right on pouring down around you.
they cut him down as he ran
his blood had spilled out on the sand
and in the end, we're all in prison
said the coroner to the man
but doc you just don't understand
that woman on the slab, it ain't her.

I think this is a nicely written song with some great lyrics. Honestly delivered lyrics. I suggest collabing with rsorensen on this. This is much like him.
Very good song. man.
