Very cool &mdash 09/07/08 - 12:20:39 PM
Love the guitar on this; the playing is excellent, and the guitar tone is lovely. Isn't it Brian May who uses a coin as a plectrum? Esteemed company! By the way, it's good to hear the word 'plectrum'; as an Irishman who grew up saying 'plectrum', I got some funny looks when I moved to the States until I learned to say 'pick'! Very nicely done. Peace.

Eric Johnson at MJ? &mdash 09/07/08 - 01:52:49 PM
Sounds like something that he might try to pull off. Lovely chord progression, great sound on the leads. Enjoyed mucho.

Thanks! &mdash 09/07/08 - 02:31:14 PM
I don't have anywhere near the technique of Mr Johnson but thanks for the flattering comparison!
Cheers

Hey, Steve... &mdash 09/07/08 - 10:04:59 PM
I like the bigger and lusher backgrounds and mixes you're getting.

Certainly a nice stereo bed for the soloing action to play around with... Like those descending arpeggios, too, and think you were wise not to solo over those bits...

The drums are a far cry from the ol' drum machine days, and serve your talent much better....Love the airy sizzle in the snare and cymbals...It might love a bit of anchoring from a stronger bass drum and bass guitar...

I think that on the equipment I'm listening on, the solos seem to sort of sit on top of the mix a bit... Might be cool to work sonically with a smidgen of reverb and panning to help the solos to sit within the mix a little more...

But heck, I think this is you moving in one of your strongest directions, and I'll gratefully download it...

Do they still have pennies - or are you a horder? &mdash 09/11/08 - 05:00:36 AM
Steve,

The sound you got here is really rich and full. I still can't get anything like this out of Logic Studio at this stage - great sound!

This is possibly the most interesting drum track you've done, although I'm still of the opinion that you need a bass player in there as well.

Beautiful recording and playing.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Psych! &mdash 09/17/08 - 06:26:32 PM
I am heartened to see the guitar still the axe of choice for lots of MJ-ers. This is a great, expressive tune. Not to be too critical but I'd tuck the lead in a couple of DBs to leave us "leaning in" to hear it all instead of backing off to get the full mix. That said I'm a fan, glad I - a relative newbie here - found your music.

A couple passages remind me of my favorite "secret" old blues-prog band, Nektar in the height of their early 70s psychedelic explorations.
