Chinga chinga guitars and horns are fun.

What a cool song!

So are you just sitting there doing these songs alone in GarageBand or what? I wanna know more about you and your process as I've just FAVED you.

You're a very talented songwriter.

Welcome to MacJams!

who/what/how &mdash 09/12/08 - 09:05:38 PM
That's pretty much it - me and my ibook. I've always been into that Ian MacKaye D.I.Y. ideal and i got into my profession (computer programming) by synth / drum machine programming as a kid so I naturally gravitated toward digital music. I tried a few other programs but none were as cheap and effective as GarageBand. I'd like to use Logic Pro but can't afford it. So that's the Why. The how - I use an ibook G4 with GarageBand, an M-Audio interface and Shure SM57 mics. For guitars I like cheap and interesting - my current favorite is an Oscar Schmidt OE-30 Delta King. Same for bass - I use a Squire Bronco and mandolin - I use a low end Epiphone. I'm into old Casio keyboards and I still use an old Peavey DPM that I pawned my car for back in the 80's. As far as composition goes, I really don't have a method - some songs I begin with a vocal scratch recording and a click track, then add bass and piano. Others I'll start more traditionally with a guitar riff. I know that all my songs have a "sound" but I couldn't really explain how - except that I fixate on phrasing - musically and vocally - that old novelist ideal from the 30's - "say it different" - I try to apply that to each part of every song.

So that's it. Thanks for your great comments - very cool that the songs have that affect. By the way, it seems that MacJams encourages collaboration - something I havn't done in years. If you ever want to work together on something just let me know. I work slowly because I don't have much time - I have to work around the job/wife/kid/horses etc - we're a rural family - but I get it done eventually.

My gosh what a great song.
I love melodic rock music and that's what you do so well. Should be #1 hits if the world worked properly.
great singing too. Your stuff reminds me a bit of some of the stuff that came out on Kindercore records, including one of my all time favourites Masters of the Hemisphere.
